Good to know
The Savix from Giro is a road cycling shoe that champions two main features: the BOA dial and the universal cleat design. The BOA L6 dial could easily be adjusted even while on the bike and helps eliminate excess weight. The universal cleat mount allows the rider to switch between two and three-bolt pedals freely.
Beginner-friendly outsole. The Savix employs an injected nylon material for its outsole. This type of sole supplies a moderate stiffness for sufficient power transfer. It is also recommended for riders who just got into the sport.
Universal cleat design. This model is a clipless shoe that features markings to keep the cleats aligned every time you need to change it. The shoe can accommodate both 2- and 3-bolt cleat designs. Users are given the freedom to switch between these two options depending on their personal preferences.
Both the 2-bolt and 3-bolt designs connect the rider to the bike. The main differences lie in the manner of clipping out of the pedal and how connected the shoe feels. The 2-bolt is easier to clip out, but the 3-bolt provides a more secure connection.
Some of the 2-bolt pedals you can buy are Shimano A600 and Shimano A520. Some of the best recommended 3-bolt pedals are Shimano R540 SPD-SL and Shimano Ultegra.
Breathable. One of the shoe’s strengths is its excellent ventilation, all thanks to the multiple perforations found throughout the shoe. The upper consists of mesh panels in the toe box, midfoot, and collar areas. Finished by a perforated tongue and a vented hole in the outsole.
Easy on-the-fly adjustment. Entry-level cycling footwear doesn’t often come equipped with BOA closures as it is seen as something that usually belongs to high-end models. However, the Giro Savix just broke that stereotype as it features the BOA. This pair's BOA L6 dial allows the cyclist to tighten the shoe even on a bike in 1mm increments. It is designed to provide fast and easy adjustment with just a turn of the dial.
The closure utilizes a combination of a cable lace with nylon guides and a mechanical reel system. This fusion helps eliminate lace stretching and reduces weight. Lastly, the dial also offers an instant macro release function for easier entry and exit of the foot.
Durable yet supple upper. Crafted from a combination of mesh and synthetic fiber material, the Savix provides a durable construction without sacrificing the comfortable and flexible fit.
The Giro Savix is available in both men’s and women’s versions. The latter version is designed with a narrower last shape that is molded after proprietary cycling last built for women. It provides the signature cycling fit but made for women’s feet.
Every model released by the brand is built on proprietary cycling-specific lasts to provide a one-of-a-kind fit that embraces the foot without causing discomfort. This signature fit from Giro is called the Precision Fit, and the lasts used for this technology are hand-crafted.
The Giro Savix utilizes a die-cut footbed to provide optimal in-step comfort. This insole is designed to hug and shape after the foot to avoid it from sliding inside the shoe.
- Brandings can be seen on the insole, rear and lateral parts of the upper, and outsole.
- Upon purchase, the shoe comes with cleats.
