Updates to Garmont Trail Beast GTX

  • Garmont crafted the Trail Beast GTX with versatility in mind. It’s suitable for light on-trail hikes and urban landscapes. The shoe features a durable upper—made of suede and nylon—lined with Gore-Tex for weather protection. It is equipped with the Anatomically Directed Design (a.d.d.) technology which aims to promote comfort.
  • Its Light Hike component set (sole unit) displays a rockered form to grant a smooth transition from heel strike to toe off. It includes an expanded EVA midsole for lightweight cushioning and a Vibram rubber outsole for grip on a variety of surfaces.

Size and fit

The Trail Beast GTX is a hiking shoe for men. It is offered in whole and half sizes and standard width. According to Garmont, this pair runs true to size.

The designers use Active (an athletic fit type by Garmont) for this shoe. It creates a lower volume at the instep but with a wider footprint for increased ground contact. The shoe’s lace-to-toe closure permits hikers to customize the fit.

Outsole

This shoe for hiking sports the Vibram S1097 outsole. It is made of Megagrip compound which grips on wet or dry grounds. Its multidirectional lugs grant 360-degree traction. The rectangular lugs on the tip of the forefoot and rearfoot assists during ascents and descents.

Midsole

To create a cushioned and responsive ride, the Trail Beast GTX uses an expanded EVA midsole. This lightweight material has a midfoot shank for added stability. This set is paired the FrameFlex Lite, a full-length nylon frame, which enhances underfoot support. A PU footbed, on the other hand, optimizes comfort.

Upper

The Trail Beast GTX upper features 1.6 mm suede leather with nylon mesh inserts. It is lined with Gore-Tex Extended Comfort, making this below-the-ankle hiker waterproof and breathable. For added protection, it is reinforced with a rubber toe cap.

It carries the brand-owned Anatomically Directed Design (a.d.d.) which promotes the natural biomechanics of the foot. An asymmetrical cuff and anatomical tongue yield stability. Its differential ankle pads secure the heel in place. Its precision lacing makes the foot and shoe flex in sync for comfort.

The closure system of the Trail Beast GTX uses fabric loops and metal eyelets. A pull tab is added at the heel to aid in donning and doffing. Lastly, the lace keeper helps keep the tongue in place.
