Overview of this review
Size and fit
eS Accel OG sneakers boast a true-to-size fit so finding your perfect match shouldn’t be a problem. They’re designed for men, but women can rock them too if they go down one full size and a half from their normal shoe measurement.
The shoes hug the feet, and the huge, poofy tongues keep the feet locked in place while providing protection from bumps and bruises.
eS Accel OG Style
Whether you skate or not, the rise of the beetle-crushers is unavoidable. It’s everywhere from lifestyle shoes to skating kicks. And if you skate, well, consider it a bonus that with eS Accel OGs you’ve got exceptionally functional footwear that’s very much on-trend.
Some style tips
- Take the eS Accel OG navy/white/red colorway and pair them with white pants, a red long-sleeved sweater, and a blue jacket.
- eS Accel OG sneakers in black/charcoal or black colorways and pair with loose grey pants, a burgundy shirt, and a red jacket.
Way before the chunky shoe trend started, there was eS and the Accel model. Accel shoes are known for their ultra-technical construction that takes into consideration every need the skateboarder has. The chunky profile is not just for style but to provide enough padding and cushioning that would make any high-impact skater smile.
eS Accel OGs feature STI open cell foam cushioning that, while excellent at absorbing impact, are also good for providing board control and feel. The 400 NBS gum rubber enhances the outsoles’ longevity and toughness.
eS Accel OG History
“Everything a shoe should be for skateboarding,” as one reviewer put it, which may explain why the Accel silhouette remains the eS brand’s most popular silhouette since the company was founded in 1995. The sneakers were some of the first releases of the brand.
The sneakers’ puffy shoe design was an innovation that was not seen much on skaters’ kicks then which were mostly your basic cupsole shoe with suede fabric. And since Accel shoes ticked all the boxes skaters needed in their skating footwear (comfort, function, durability, and style), it was no wonder that these became the skating footwear of choice for many pros. In fact, The Accels were just as ubiquitous as blue jeans, and most skaters in the 90s to the 2000s had one or two of these in their closets.
The brand followed up the success of the Accel silhouette with many more memorable models. It was triumph after triumph for eS, not just with its shoes but with the legendary team of riders it managed to gather—Sal Barber, Chad Muska, Eric Koston, and Paul Sharpe, to name a few. However, in 2012, Sole Technology, which owns eS, etnies, and Emerica, decided to put eS on hiatus because the hype surrounding it might endanger its other brands.
The clamor for the eS brand grew loud, and four years after the hiatus, eS came out of its hibernation, all rested up and ready to take on the skateboarding world by storm again. And what better way to do this than by reissuing its most famous model as the Accel OG?
- eS Accel OGs are available in brown/gum and white/black colorways too.
