How ECCO Soft 8 fits
The ECCO Soft 8 is available in both men’s and women’s sizing. Many reviews mention that sizing on this low-top runs on the bigger side and recommend going either half or a full size down, depending on how wide one’s foot is.
It is also important to note that several testers state that the forefoot area is narrow, so that is one thing to consider when deciding to get one’s near-accurate size option.
Whichever metric measurement one is accustomed to, ECCO put up both US and EU sizing and guide for the individual to easily pick the right size they are more familiar with, much like the rest of the low-top roster from the brand.
Providing ample support is the leather-lined removable footbed, which can be replaced with one’s orthotics for a more personalized fit.
Styling with ECCO Soft 8
At first glance, the silhouette for the Soft 8 can be mistakenly identified for the ECCO Soft 8 Tie. No surprises there. Coming from the same collection, they might as well be doppelgangers.
Although similarly swaddled in leather, the powder-soft texture of the Soft 8 glosses against the white midsole.
- Perfect the preppy attire by throwing on a light brown khaki, a slim-fit black jacket over an olive green turtle-neck cashmere sweater, and a pair of the ECCO Soft 8 in tonal navy blue.
- Look every bit like a boss babe by pulling off an androgynous attire with some slim-fit black denim, gray shirt tucked under a slim-cut blazer, and the light brown ECCO Soft 8 on feet.
True to its coastline roots
The ECCO Soft 8 takes inspiration from the coastlines of its home roots, Denmark. Capturing the soft hues and subtle contours of the Scandinavian shorelines, coupled with unparalleled craftsmanship, makes this low-cut a very wearable sneaker for any time of the year.
The Soft 8 sneakers come in different variations -- mostly on the quality of leather used in the upper. However distinct, each model carries the minimalist, no-fuss, silhouette that defines the Soft 8 collection.
Some models possess contrasting leather lace, while some have tonal rope laces. Similar to both are ECCO’s Flexure cup sole for a flexible movement and FluidForm for that rebound, cushiony feel with every stride.
Quick background on ECCO Soft 8
ECCO founder Karl Toosbuy has been working in the shoe manufacturing business since he was 17 with the passion for crafting quality footwear with the feet’s comfort and protection in mind, not the other way around.
The Denmark-based company is proud to be the only shoe brand that owns and manages every step of the shoe production operation -- from tannery to retail.
Award-winning leather technology
In 2018, ECCO introduced a sustainable tanning method at the 2018 World Water Congress in Tokyo called the DriTan™ technology.
Years of research and development led to processing leather that ultimately saves 20 liters of water per hide -- equal to an estimated 25 million liters of water annually--minimizes the wastewater discharge, and lessens the use of chemicals without compromising on the quality of leather made.
For such a monumental feat, ECCO was recognized by different industries to laud such an innovative initiative.
Among the awards are (1) Innovation and Sustainability award for 2020 by Outdoor Retailer; (2) Best of What’s New award for 2019 by the American magazine, Popular Science; and (3) Technology award category of 2019 for the Scandinavian Outdoor Award.
To commemorate its water-saving technology launch at the World Water Congress, ECCO re-introduced the Soft 8 sneaker in the DriTan™ leather. This was the first ECCO sneaker that carried revolutionary leather.
The Soft 8 line was introduced in 2017 for its Summer/Spring collection as a successor to the equally popular Soft 7 collection. Retaining the standard artisanship, ECCO’s Soft 8 shoes have a cleaner and more polished look that every shoe wearer, who can spot high-grade quality, must-have in one’s collection.
