Officially named the Bontrager SSR Multisport shoe, this footwear is designed and marketed as an all-around casual cycling shoe. From the last to the aesthetic design and structure, every aspect aims toward multifaceted use.
The shoe’s overall look resembles the more casual looks of hiking and/or walking shoes. Down below, rubber soles house recessed 2-bolt cleat systems for clipping into the bike, while a removable plate can be applied over the cleat for a flat bike shoe function.
Grip and rigidity. Equipped with a 100% rubber outsole, the SSR by Bontrager yields traction in smooth and slippery surfaces. Enveloped inside the rubber soles are glass-reinforced nylon plates, which governs stiffness for good power transfer.
The Bontrager SSR Multisport shoe employs a two-bolt cleat design, although it could also be used as a flat shoe if needed. If chosen to use as a clipless shoe, the following SPD pedals are suitable: Shimano PD-M530, Schwinn Magnesium SPD Clip, and VP-152 MTB Bike Pedals.
If you want to use it as a flat bike shoe, check these pedal models out: OneUp Components Aluminum Pedals, Spank Oozy Trail, and Acros A-Flat MD.
Casual comfort with protection. This footwear features the silhouette and materials of casual shoes, which could also translate to a more relaxed feel compared to standard bike shoe fit. The upper is made up of 60.9% Polyester, 37.1% Polyutherane, and 2% TPU, while the lining is crafted from 100% Polyester.
Secure lockdown. The SSR utilizes the combination of classic laces and a single hook and loop strap. The laces are responsible for the fit throughout the foot. While the strap secures the foot and the laces from moving around.
A heel pull-tab provides an easier on and off.
The Bontrager SSR employs the brand’s inForm Performance last. This last is the company’s roomiest and most relaxed fit. It mimics the fit of typical shoes and can accommodate a wide range of foot width.
