The GT 2000 series is now in its 6th iteration. Asics have modified and replaced some technologies from the older version to provide runners a more satisfying experience.
The improvements have resulted to a much lighter design. However, compared to the other Asics GT 2000 6 as an average-performing stability shoe.
Updates of the Asics GT 2000 6
The midsole of the Asics GT 2000 6 has been modified. The new single-piece FlyteFoam replaces the FluidRide midsole found in the Asics GT 2000 5. The FlyteFoam delivers adaptive and resilient cushioning. It is also much lighter compared to the FluidRide technology.
Another update of the shoe can be seen in its upper. The Asics GT 2000 6 features a new one-piece mesh upper that provides an exceptional foot breathability. The seamless design of the upper gives the foot a smoother environment for an irritation-free running experience.
Lastly, Asics have removed the external heel counter of the shoe. The GT 2000 6 now has an Exoskeletal heel counter that still provides heel stability and enhanced fit.
Technical Construction of the Asics GT 2000 6
The upper of the Asics GT 2000 6 has a seamless design. It utilizes a breathable mesh material that is also flexible.
It wraps the foot securely and provides unmatched comfort for all-day wear. Along with the mesh material are the perforations on the side of the shoe. It keeps the foot cool and dry all throughout the run.
The tongue and heel collar of the shoe is generously padded. The foam is just right, not too firm and too soft. It provides added foot security and comfort.
The shoe features a traditional lacing system that can easily be adjusted to suit the individual preference of the user. The laces are semi-round, slightly flexible and durable.
The discrete eyelets provide a more customized fitting while the lace loops give a more secure midfoot lockdown. Small details on the upper, such as the logo and shoe model name, give the shoe a more eye-catching design.
In the midsole of the Asics GT 2000 6, is the lightweight FlyteFoam midsole. It provides durable underfoot cushioning and responsive ride for long-mile runs.
Along with the FlyteFoam cushioning is the Dynamic DuoMax technology.
It provides the necessary support for a more stable performance. It works perfectly with the Impact Guidance System that is specifically designed for a balanced and smoother heel-to-toe transition.
Lastly, the shoe comes with a removable Ortholite sock liner that is made of light and soft material. It provides added support and cushioning.
In the outsole of the shoe is the durable Asics High Abrasion Rubber (AHAR) material.
It is specifically placed in the high-wear areas to give the sole unit the necessary protection. This rubber material is tough enough to endure the damaging elements of the road.
Along with the AHAR material is the DuraSponge material that provides added cushioning, flexibility, and traction on paved surfaces.
The Asics GT 2000 6 has a light tread pattern. This outsole configuration is reliable enough to provide traction on both dry and slightly wet surfaces.
Lastly, on the outsole is the Guidance Line technology. It is specifically designed to provide flexibility.
All my stability running shoes are size 8, and I have no issues with the overall fit of the GT 2000 6. The fit was just right – from the heel to the forefoot.
The toe box is roomy as well. My toes are not squeezing. However, I have noticed that the shoe may feel tight when paired with thick socks. I usually use thin socks when running so this is not an issue for me.
Comfort & Breathability
I am very particular when it comes to breathability because my foot sweats easily.
I like the mesh upper and the seamless design of the GT 2000 6. It provides a smoother environment for my foot. The ventilation on the sides made the shoe even more breathable.
One thing that annoys me is the tongue of the shoe. It keeps on sliding inwards.
I need to stop running and pull it up because it gives me discomfort when ignored. Though there is a loop in the tongue, it is not efficient enough to keep the tongue in place while running.
I have been using the Asics GT 2000 6 for short and long-distance runs. I feel that the shoe is not as supportive as the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 and Adrenaline GTS 18.
The overall responsiveness of the shoe and the stability level is just average. Compared to the older version, the GT 2000 6 shows no significant improvement in its support and ride quality.
Another thing that is less impressive is the forefoot flexibility. The forefoot of the GT 2000 6 is not as flexible as the Asics GT 2000 5. It is flexible but not as flexible as I expected it to be.
Just like the other Asics running shoes, the Asics GT 2000 6 is made from high-quality materials.
The shoe is durable - from the upper to the sole unit. There are no signs of significant wear even after using them on several miles.

Overall Impression of the Asics GT 2000 6
Based on my test, I found some aspects of the shoe to be less satisfying. However, I would still recommend this shoe especially to those who give more importance to durability and comfort over performance.
This basic model has been around and quite popular since 1995, and with this latest version, Asics has taken a very bold step... with more changes this year than ever before.
The company was founded in Kobe, Japan in 1949 as the Onitsuka Co. Ltd. by a Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka and, was originally a manufacturer of basketball shoes.
Who Is Best Suited for this Shoe
With over 60% of the running public tending to overpronate, the Asics GT 2000 Series has always had wide appeal.
This shoe is a support-stability category road running shoe, designed primarily for mild overpronators, as well as some neutral runners that simply enjoy a little stability, when late in a race and beginning to lose some form.
The GT outsole begins with DuraSponge, a blown rubber that has excellent road adhesion, even in wet surfaces. The heel enjoys AHAR (Asics High Abrasion Rubber) a durable carbon rubber.
The pattern of the rubber components has been updated, providing a smoother and quieter gait cycle.
The Guidance Line, Flex Grooves, and the Trusstic System are all still in use, with only minor, mostly cosmetic changes.
The heart of any running shoe is the midsole, and the heart of this GT is strong.
The GT 2000 6 incorporates a full-length Flytefoam midsole, claimed to be 50 % lighter than standard EVA foams, as well as more durable and more responsive. (So they say)
There is some gender consideration in the GT 2000, made up of a layer of Solyte foam, above the Flytefoam, with the difference being the firmness between the two genders.
Thankfully they have retained the superb silicone based Gel material in the forefoot and heel.
The Asics SoLyte foam was 50% lighter, now Flytefoam is making claims about its weight loss, soon I suppose, we may be able to actually drift away into the air, during a nap, feet first.
The upper is composed of a breathable mesh and, is manufactured using seamless construction…while the Asics signature tiger stripes have been removed from the medial side of each shoe.
An internally integrated heel clutching system provides a secure fit, limiting heel slippage without the constraints of last year's bulky exoskeletal parts.
Discrete eyelets help disperse lace tension, while two pairs of eyelets have been replaced with a web material that is similar to that of many Asics trail shoes.
The overlays are super thin and welded on, with a few stitches appearing only in the area of the lace eyelets. Asics added ventilation holes to the medial side of the upper just above the arch; you can feel the air moving as you run…ensuring cooler feet in the summer heat.
A fairly thick anti-bacterial sock liner has been added, providing some additional cushioning and comfort. The tongue and collar are nicely padded.
The toe box area is alarmingly low, the cost some companies are paying in their attempts to move from proper uppers with no caps, stitches and structure, to the fancy new engineered mesh.
Everybody (engineers at Asics) needs to stop, right now, put down your slide rules and hp calculators and take a look at the Brooks Revel...That's how it is done.
Slipping into these shoes for the first time, you notice immediately that the uppers are softer and more comfortable than last year's version . However, you also notice less clearance above your toes, than last year's model.
The toe box is advertised as being roomier…but, in reality, it is not.
The laces are also new this year, and you can feel the laces cinch reassuringly when tightening, you know they will be staying tied.
What a difference this new model has made, when compared to last year's version 5, which was clunky and very difficult to run smoothly and quietly in.
With version 6, I am able to land on my forefoot, midfoot or heel to toe, and with each form, the ride is quiet and with a bit less effort needed, than in last year's version.
The designers have used the same outsole parts, moved them around a bit and have come up with this remarkably pleasant and better shoe, now that’s what I call good engineering.
I must note, these shoes feel lighter on the road than they show on the scale, even when simply lifting them, they seem lighter.
After a complete visual inspection of the new GT 200O 6, I failed to find any noticeable defects…except for some shoddy stitching under the sockliner. Otherwise, their attention to detail is phenomenal!
Remember, I am looking through the eyes of a former US Air Force Rescue helicopter crew chief…which makes me detail oriented, I can't help it.
The durability of the Asics GT 2000 6 is on par with the best shoes the industry has to offer.
Where have all the reflectors gone?
The added graphics, that look like they could be reflectors, didn't seem effective at all, I think they are simply inked graphics, pretty to look at in the light of day, only.
I believe that reflectors should be mandatory for all running shoes. We have safety belts for our cars, helmets for our bikes, why can’t we have a law that provides us with visible protection? Reflector’s save lives!
The toe box area of the shoe is just low enough to make me wonder if a half marathon might result in yet another toenail being lost.
This model wraps my feet well, I appreciate the midfoot web-eyelets used for the lacing.
When you are running correctly, but not consciously trying to, then you are probably in the right shoe.
Getting into the right shoe should be your highest priority.
Some people never find the right shoe, and they are the ones that say "I never really liked running".

The new Asics GT 2000 6 is a great shoe, better in every way that previous iterations of this series, except for the toe fit.

- The sixth iteration of the GT 2000 from Asics claims to be lighter and more cushioned, thus ensuring a livelier step. The shoe gets an overall redesign that results in a more supportive ride and a better fit.
- While it still has the same material for the upper, the shoe now has thinner overlays that use hot-melt installation. The previous ones were thicker and utilized a fusing technique. Aside from the new overlays, the upper also employs a new lasting method.
- The Flytefoam® midsole is the most notable update in this release. With this foam, the shoe is firmer, denser, and more resilient compared to the GT 2000 5. Meanwhile, the outsole retains the same layout, as well as tried-and-tested technologies from Asics, such as the Impact Guidance System (IGS®) within their high abrasion resistant blown rubber.
The Asics GT 2000 6 runs small; thus, wearers are recommended to purchase a half-size bigger than their usual fit. The forefoot has a minimal construction that will cater to runners with narrow to moderate foot volume. The men’s version of the shoe is available in D – Medium, 2E – Wide, and 4E – Extra Wide, while the women’s version is available in B – Medium and D – Wide.
The classic Asics High Abrasion Rubber (AHAR) makes up the outsole of the GT 2000 6. It is made of blown carbon rubber, giving the shoe durability and protecting the midsole from wear and abrasion. The material is also able to withstand high impact, thus enabling the shoe to grip various surfaces effortlessly. The AHAR is also utilized in the GT 2000 7, which is this shoe's successor.
At the forefoot area is a softer blown rubber, known as DuraSponge®. It equips the shoe with additional cushioning so that the toe-off is more comfortable and flexible.
Introducing in the GT 2000 6 is the Flytefoam®, a midsole technology that provides a superior level of responsiveness, no matter the distance. It is made of organic fibers to prevent packing out, which is typical with traditional foams. This midsole material allows resiliency without adding weight to the shoe.
The forefoot and rearfoot areas have the signature Gel cushioning system, which consists of a silicone-based gel. The Gel cushioning aids in shock absorption, especially during impact. In this version, the Gel pad is angled upward to make the cushion firmer at heel strike, resulting in a more balanced midsole.
The top layer of the midsole is Asics’ special ethylene-vinyl acetate (spEVA), which delivers an increased energy return. SpEVA utilizes the properties of traditional foam and rubber ball; both are combined to provide sufficient shock absorption and rebound qualities.
Like all other versions of the GT 2000, this shoe features the Impact Guidance System (IGS®), which works by enhancing the foot’s gait. IGS aims to promote natural movement; hence, the shoe works with the foot instead of controlling it.
To reduce overpronation, the shoe employs the Dynamic DuoMax™. This feature decreases the stress on the foot while bringing adequate support for a comfortable ride, which makes the shoe suitable for daily usage.
At the midfoot area is the Guidance Trusstic System™, a stability structure in the form of a resin material. It prevents unnecessary twisting during foot movement. This technology also offers additional torsional rigidity.
Meanwhile, the forefoot area has Guidance Line™, a vertical flex groove that improves gait efficiency. Guidance Line™ reduces imbalance caused by shifts, thus enhancing the run. The vertical groove works by directing all pressure towards itself, therefore supplying a balanced running form. This feature is especially useful for beginner runners.
Another unique feature of the GT 2000 6 is the gender-specific cushioning. The women’s version has a lower-density spEVA layer, giving more bounce-back.
The removable sock liner is made of ComforDry; it adds cushioning and wicks away moisture for a dry foot environment.
The open mesh upper of the GT 2000 6 enables a ventilated coverage. It has a seamless finish that wraps the foot comfortably without restricting breathability.
An exoskeletal resin heel counter, called the Heel Clutching System™, provides improved support and a more precise fit. It works by “clutching” the heel, thus permitting stability.
The shoe uses a traditional lacing system, but what makes it unique are the Discrete Eyelets™. Instead of conventional lacing eyelets that are connected to one another, the Discrete Eyelets™ are separately laid, allowing tension forces to be distributed according to foot shape.
