The Gel Torrance 2 has a look that is similar to its predecessor, the original Gel Torrance model. The uncluttered yet sporty design gives these shoes a distinct silhouette, with stitch-on panels serving as supportive elements for the uppers of both iterations. But version 2 offers extra coverage since it only has pores on its panels and not strategic cut-outs. The midsole units are also different because the previously utilized SpEVA is now updated to AmpliFoam™.

Size and fit

The regular sizing measurements were the basis when the Asics Gel Torrance 2 was made. Runners are welcome to get a pair using the size options that suit them the most. When it comes to the sideways fit, the elements that contribute to an agreeable overall wrap are the semi-curved platform shape and the form-welcoming upper. But there have been reports of a loose in-shoe experience, so caution and personal shoe-fitting should be considered.

A rubber compound covers the base of the midsole unit’s foam. The purpose of this layer is to protect against the potentially debilitating effects of surface contact and continued use. It is also meant to provide traction, an aspect of the run that delivers precise and confident movements on the surfaces.

Shallow flex grooves allow the platform of this Asics running shoe to bend in conjunction with the foot as it moves through the gait cycle. The forefoot lift is the part of the step that benefits from these channels as it involves movement from the toe joints and ligaments.

Underfoot cushioning is the task of the full-length AmpliFoam™ midsole. This compound is touted to be a lightweight piece that is flexible and responsive to the motion of the foot. Its low-density configuration seeks to stave off the effects of early material breakdown like wrinkling and sagging.

An OrthoLite® Sockliner is placed above the main midsole technology. This relatively thin add-on offers a soft surface that the underfoot can enjoy. Moreover, it has anti-moisture and antimicrobial properties that help in maintaining a healthy foot-environment.

The upper unit of the Asics Gel Torrance 2 is made of a multilayered mesh, the purpose of which is to provide a secure wrap. Small breathing holes allow the foot-chamber to be ventilated, thus bringing airiness and dryness to the in-shoe experience.

Panels on the sides and heel of this product assist the rest of the upper when it comes to hugging the foot and preventing wobbling. These stitch-on layers don’t hinder ventilation as they have pores that permit air into, and through, the interior compartment. Stitch-on overlays are present in other Asics series like the Gel Venture.
