The Asics Dan Gable Evo 2 is marketed for both novice and professional wrestlers. It is equipped with a grippy underside that prevents accidental slippage while suede elements on the sole allow for a more controlled movement. The upper of this wrestling shoe uses materials that keep the foot supported while also keeping it fresh.

In terms of silhouette, this iteration looks similar to the original Asics Dan Gable Evo. They both sport a mid-top style that delivers ankle support. They both use the Octipod outsole for traction and flexibility. As for what changed in the Dan Gable Evo 2, instead of Ecsaine, it features a mesh upper that offers more breathability.

Traction. As for the grip, it uses the Octipod outsole. It is made of a non-marking rubber populated with circular treads. It provides traction in strategic areas, aiding wrestlers to move swiftly on the mat. A strip of suede covers some parts under the arch, assisting in quick getaways when needed.

Movement. The Asics Dan Gable Evo 2 is a split-sole wrestling shoe. This type of construction offers more flexibility compared to wrestling trainers with a unisole.

The outsole also wraps up in some sections. This style allows the wearer to push off the mat, regardless of the foot’s angle.

Comfort. Inside the Dan Gable Evo 2 is the Ortholite sockliner. This foam component improves underfoot cushioning and fit of the shoe. Its open-cell construction aids in moisture-wicking and heat dissipation. Another element that enhances the breathability of the footwear is the footbed made of porous mesh.

Coverage. A Mesh material forms the top of this Asics wrestling shoes. It features open pores that promote aeration of the interior. Suede lines the bottom portion of the upper, reinforcing the area and aids in smooth movements on the mat.

Sock-like fit. The top of the Asics Dan Gable Evo 2 employs an internal bootie construction. It allows the shoe to move one with the foot and provide full coverage and support. The light foam on the tongue and collar also improves the fit of the top.

Lockdown. The mid-top construction of this wrestling trainer provides adequate ankle hold. The fit of the top can be improved by adjusting the lacing system.

Lace garage. Because wrestling is a full-body contact sport, the shoelaces can get untied from the scuffle. To prevent this from happening, there’s a Velcro strap on the tongue that keeps them tucked in.

If you want flexibility and maximum traction in your wrestling trainer, check out the Asics Aggressor 4. Unlike the Dan Gable Evo 2, the Aggressor 4 is a unisole wrestling trainer. The underside looks like treads on car tires, delivering reliable grip on the mat. The segmented form of the outsole also promotes natural foot movements.

The top of the Aggressor 4 is crafted from suede, which may not sit well with athletes who want to avoid hot and sweaty feet. The mesh top of the Dan Gable Evo 2 may be more suitable for such situations.
