Profile of the AND 1 Attack Low
In early 2018, there were speculations that AND 1 will make a return and take over the streets again. To celebrate its 25th year, trash talk shirts, hoodies, and classic AND 1 basketball shoes such as the Tai Chis and the Attacks are released once again. The now iconic Tai Chis were worn by Vince Carter when he won the NBA Slam Dunk 2000.
AND 1 hired Kevin Garnett as the brand’s Global Ambassador and Creative Director. Fifteen years ago, he had two signature shoes with the brand. Currently, his capsule collection is in the works as he helps the brand grow. In the past, Garnett enjoyed working with AND 1 because he was able to give an input on what he wanted with his signature shoe. He said in an interview, “With AND1 it was more of a collaboration and partnership. The money was right and the opportunity was even more right. And [so] I went for it.”
To quote a famous shoe reviewer, he said,” The AND 1 Attack Low is a brand new model for a brand new generation.” He is certainly correct. The uppers of these AND 1 sneakers are built with breathable micro-mesh for a lightweight, flexible, and cozy fit. The midfoot comes with nylon ghillie eyelets that works like the Nike Flywire technology. The outsole is designed with a modified traction pattern that works well with any court surface. When it comes to stability, the outrigger and injection molded shank get the job done. As for cushioning, the AND 1 Attack Low features EVA-encased Harmonix RX cushioning from forefoot to heel.
Cushion. The AND 1 Attack Low comes with a full-length Harmonix RX cushion encapsulated in an injected EVA midsole. The cushioning setup provides an amazing court feel and responsiveness.
Traction. The outsole of the AND 1 Attack Low comes with a combination of wavy and wide herringbone traction patterns. This robust tread pattern is versatile enough to withstand both indoor and outdoor surfaces. The lateral side has a wide base. It serves as an outrigger that ensures stability and support. The midfoot has an injection molded shank for torsional rigidity.
Length and Width. There are comments from wearers that the AND 1 Attack Low runs quite long and narrow. New buyers with normal feet must go up half a size. Wide footers may have to look for a different shoe.
Lockdown. To secure the foot, the AND 1 Attack Low is equipped nylon ghillie eyelets. The laces that go through these holes are attached to the footbed. They hug the midfoot when tightened, pretty much like what Nike’s Flywire does.
The upper of the AND 1 Attack Low boasts a micro-mesh upper with strategic midfoot cutouts for ventilation. The ankle has a traditional internal heel counter to keep the foot in place. For a comfortable ankle fit, the collar comes with thick foam pads.
The Attack Low comes with AND 1 logos on the tongue, sides, insole, and outsole. The low-top construction of these AND 1 basketball shoes deliver light mobility. When it comes to style, many wearers commend the shoe’s straightforward design that is compatible for both on-court and off-court activities.
