Good to know

  • Altra presents the Solstice, a road running shoe that also excels in short races, workouts, and cross-training. This shoe is suitable for runners who want to try out a zero-drop running shoe, because of its straightforward design and price point that is relatively lower compared to other similar shoes.
  • With a breathable mesh upper, the Solstice is engineered to deliver a lightweight feel and low-profile appearance while still giving the necessary support where it is needed. It features a FootShape™ toe box that lets the forefoot relax and move naturally.
  • The zero-drop ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) midsole places the heel and forefoot at the same height from the ground. This structure promotes the least impact from footstrike, thus reducing the chances of injury.

A durable rubber material makes up the outsole of the Altra Solstice. It promises increased longevity so that runners are able to log more miles without the distraction of wear and tear, or any other possible damage. This material also guarantees underfoot protection.

The outsole pattern displays shallow zigzag grooves, promoting a multi-directional grip on various surfaces. The midfoot area is hollow to encourage arch support despite the zero-drop construction of the shoe.

All Altra shoes, such as the Torin 3.0, has zero-drop design. The zero-drop midsole of the Altra Solstice is made of classic ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) foam. While it may be unlike other running shoes with fancy proprietary foams, this dependable material ensures a durable cushioning while also offering an adequate level of energy return for an efficient stride. The EVA foam supplies the foot with ample flexibility and rebound to sustain the runner’s cadence as the miles add on, and the zero-drop design evenly distributes impact.

The midsole also features a natural foot design, which means the shoe has an anatomical shape to promote normal mobility for the ultimate comfort.

Inner Flex, the shoe’s flex groove system, supports the midsole as it is present across the length of the shoe. Inner Flex permits the shoe to adapt to the foot’s movements, thus prolonging running performances.

The upper of this shoe uses engineered mesh. It wraps the foot seamlessly while promoting maximum air circulation to keep it cool and moisture-free. A breathable fabric lining accompanies the mesh upper to enable a comfortable in-shoe sensation, almost like a second skin.

Altra has its exclusive toe box in the Solstice, called the FootShape™. This structure allows the most natural possible toe splay, as the big toe is not constricted and remains in a straight position. In this form, the foot retains its stability and balance, therefore enhancing running power.

There is an internal heel counter that secures the heel in place and prevents unnecessary movements. It is located inside the shoe to retain the minimal design of the Solstice.
