Good to know
Originally at $150, the Air Jordan 14 was first released on October 31, 1998. Inspired by Michael Jordan’s Ferrari F355F1, the shoe is designed by Tinker Hatfield to be light, sharp, and quick. In Hatfield’s sketch, it says “SHOE AS CAR OR CAR AS SHOE.” The shoe turns out to be the most comfortable among all Air Jordan models. The first release had both mid-top and low-top versions in eight colorways. In the Air Jordan family, the 14 is the first to have the same number of Jumpman logos as the version number.
The “Last Shot” is the most famous colorway of the Air Jordan 14. The match was between Chicago Bulls and Utah Jazz. Both teams at 86 points, the last minute started ticking. In his number 23 jersey and Air Jordan 14 shoes, Michael Jordan scored a shot at exactly six seconds before the game ended. The last shot drove the Chicago Bulls to an epic victory.
The Air Jordan 14 Retro is worn by NBA superstars Jared Sullinger, Monta Ellis, and Dwyane Wade. It features a full-length Phylon with Air units for a responsive cushioning. The durable upper and its overlays are made of leather. The outsole boasts with thick rubber compound and a herringbone traction pattern.
Jordan and Nike are the leaders when it comes to the re-release of basketball shoes. Renditions of the 1st Michael Jordan athletic sneakers never stop coming for shoe fanatics. In 2018, the first Nike Kobe Bryant shoe is retroed as the Zoom Protro 1.
Cushion. The responsiveness of the Air Jordan 14 Retro comes from the full-length Phylon midsole with Air units at the forefoot and heel. The Air unit at the forefoot provides a low-to-the-ground feel for quick cuts and crosses. As for the one at the heel, it absorbs impact. The thermo polyurethane torsional plate completes the setup by providing a smooth heel-to-toe transition and that much needed stability upon landing.
Traction. The outsole of the Air Jordan 14 Retro features a herringbone traction pattern with thick grooves. The grooves help with the court grip. The durable rubber compound is designed to withstand both indoor and outdoor courts.
Length and Width. Many reviewers agree that the Air Jordan 14 Retro comes in the standard length and width. They advise new shoe buyers to go true to their Air Jordan size for a comfortable fit. They recommend doubling the socks if after the break-in period, the leather upper starts to soften. Wearers with wide feet are advised to choose their true size, break in the shoe, and see if the fit is comfortable. They can also directly go half a size up.
Lockdown. To keep the foot in place, the Air Jordan 14 Retro utilizes the traditional lace-up system. The tongue has loops at the middle to prevent it from going to one side during movement.
The upper of the Air Jordan 14 Retro is made of leather. It has leather overlays for flexibility and added durability. Instead of a rubber outrigger, the signature shoe has EVA foam on the sides for lateral support.
The Air Jordan 14 Retro is available for both men and women, and in mid-top and low-top versions. Seven Jumpman logos are on each shoe, making it 14 when both shoes are considered. The asymmetrical collar and bar at the top of the tongue make the Air Jordan 14 unique. Both sides of the shoe has a Jumpman that takes after some elements of the Ferrari logo.
