Updates to Adidas Ultraboost Laceless
- The Ultraboost Laceless is a road running shoe that is ideal for neutral pronators. With an unusual construction, it aims to be an innovative running shoe as it does away with the concept of tying shoelaces.
- Featuring a Primeknit upper that promotes comfort by bringing a sock-like feel, it wraps around the foot and follows each motion while running.
- The midsole is made of Boost foam which aims to deliver the highest level of energy return and shock absorption, thus resulting in a more consistent run. Partnered with Continental™ rubber and Stretchweb technology, the outsole promises an energized ride that stands up against wear and tear.
The Continental™ rubber outsole aims to provide traction in both wet and dry conditions. Following the concept of automotive technology, the outsole is like a tire rubber that possesses more durability against natural wear-and-tear.
With the Stretchweb rubber on the outermost part, the impact of the foot strike is reduced, thus lowering damage and increasing performance. It also aims to handle various road surfaces that a runner may come across.
In the midfoot area lies the Torsion® system that functions as a platform to help prevent improper arch flexion, therefore resulting in a more stable ride. The purpose of the Torsion® system is to provide protection and control during strides and movements for a smooth heel-to-toe transition.
The laceless version of the Ultraboost makes use of the Boost™ technology, which Adidas touts as the most responsive cushioning unit in the market. It works on the notion that energy given will also result in energy received.
The Boost™ cushioning system is made from the amalgamation of TPU capsules. This design enables the midsole to absorb energy and impact differently than standard EVA foams. The responsiveness of boost™ is comparable to a bouncing effect.
A sock liner is included to provide additional cushioning to the foot; it can be removed to allow the use of custom inserts.
Because the shoe does not have laces, the Primeknit upper works double-duty in providing comfort and support to the foot. Primeknit uses the concept of digital knitting to produce an exact level of flexibility and support, allowing the upper to wrap the foot seamlessly without restraining it.
There are several rows of ridges that are stiff and textured on the midfoot area where the shoelaces would be if there were any. The ridges act similarly to a rib cage: they protect the foot.
Instead of a tongue, there is a single-piece pull tab and heel collar that allows the foot to get the shoe on and off with minimal effort. It is made from a fabric material that is slightly padded to prevent abrasions and injuries.
The FITCOUNTER heel counter secures the foot to maintain a natural fit without causing too much pressure to specific areas like the Achilles.
