Good to know

  • Adidas brings a host of changes in the 9th installment of the Supernova Sequence. The stability shoe's upper gets most of the significant changes; changes that helped in the weight reduction. There is a more simplified upper in this version as the midfoot panel is a lot thinner and devoid of most of the plastic overlays. Instead of TPU overlays, the upper is generally made of printed versions. Besides the weight reduction, the removal of the huge plastic overlays provides a more forgiving and comfortable fit.
  • The new engineered mesh gives excellent breathability and has a good stretch in the forefoot to accommodate those with slightly wider feet.
  • Cushioning and comfort go up a notch as the insole is made of more plush material and a bit thicker than before.
  • The running shoe's outsole gets a makeover as well. Adidas added more rubber for better durability while the rubber pattern is more articulated. The articulation offers a nice blend of flexibility and shock dispersal.

Adidas added a bit of width to the Supernova Sequence 9. The added width and a more accommodating upper ramp up the ability of the shoe to cater to runners with different dimensions. There is still a secured feel in the upper despite the extra width. The heel and midfoot are securely locked in while the forefoot has more space for the toes to wiggle. Sizing is a bit on the larger side so trying the shoe on is very important.

The reliable Continental rubber continues to be the main compound in the outsole. While some rubber is added here, it remains to be almost flat for better stability. There are deep flex grooves, which are very important for the flexibility of a well-cushioned shoe. Adidas creates more articulation in the rubber pattern both for enhanced flexibility and shock attenuation.

Adidas splits the makeup of the outsole of the Sequence Boost 9 as 50/50 for both the Boost and standard EVA. Boost is Adidas’ patented use of thousands of blown TPU energy pellets to offer a more responsive ride that is not affected by climate and does not break down easily. The exact same Boost midsole technology also found in the popular Adidas Ultra Boost.

The standard EVA is placed on top of the Boost for a firmer base and better stability. Adidas uses this arrangement to get the best combination of responsiveness and stable cushioning.

The new engineered mesh offers better flexibility and a more accommodating fit. By going with more printed overlays, the fit remains to be secure without being restrictive. Both the collar and tongue are moderately padded and very plush. An insole is added to the mix for better cushioning and comfort. A regular lace-up closure clinches the fit.
