Who should buy the Adidas Solar Glide ST

The Solar Glide ST from Adidas is for mild to moderate overpronators who want performance no matter the distance. This shoe is recommended for you if:

  • You are a heel-striker who frequents long-distance runs and marathons
  • You have a low arch and prefer a running shoe that can handle daily use and all-day wear

Updates to the Adidas Solar Glide ST

  • On the outsole of the Adidas Solar Glide ST is the Continental Rubber, which provides a good amount of traction on both and dry surfaces
  • The midsole is dual-density. Since this shoe was designed for stability, this setup helps minimize the overpronation done by runners who have high arches
  • On the sides of the platform is the Solar Propulsion Rail that supports and guides the foot into an ideal anatomical alignment for a safer and more efficient run

Flexibility and increased momentum

The Continental Rubber makes up the outsole of the Adidas Solar Glide ST. This kind of rubber is a technology for tires that gives better grip and traction. It delivers the same benefit to the outsole no matter what the season or road condition is. Because of the extra grip, runners can gain more traction to increase momentum and speed safely.

Same as the popular Ultraboost 19, the pattern designed on the Solar Glide's outsole is called StretchWeb. To make this material more flexible, the rubber was formed into circular shapes attached to a webbing pattern. It runs the entire length of the shoe without limiting the movement of the runner.

Minimal yet highly efficient arch support

The Adidas Solar Glide ST is equipped with the famous Boost midsole. This platform is made up of small blown-up TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethane) capsules. Adidas calls these energy capsules because they deliver a “boost” of energy with every stride. Because it is of dual-density, it minimizes the pronation done by the foot during runs. It doesn’t eliminate overpronation, but it does correct the excessive rolling inward of the foot for a run that’s more efficient.

The Solar Propulsion Rail, otherwise known as supportive stability rails, complements the minimal support given by the dual-density medial midsole. These rails are visibly found on the sides of the shoe. They guide the foot into the right alignment for a run that feels secure, supported, and safe.

There’s a Torsion System on the shoe that lightly supports the arch and allows the forefoot and rearfoot to move independently. This component is Thermoplastic, and it enables the runner’s foot to adapt to different surfaces as it minimally controls overpronation. Some of the benefits it delivers are protection, a better fit, and a smoother heel-to-toe transition.

Supportive upper coverage

The upper is made up of Engineered Mesh. Compared to the usual mesh material, this type is sturdier, eliminating excessive stretching, providing a small amount of support, but still delivering flexibility and breathability without adding to the overall weight.

The upper also has the flex-fold ribbing on the forefoot. NASA spacesuit gloves inspired this design. They don’t only provide an aesthetic purpose, but they also allow the upper a bit more flexibility. Topping off the design, suede overlays were added to add structure and support to the upper.

The Adidas Solar Glide ST has a traditional lace-up closure with a unique Fitwing Tongue. Unlike other running shoe tongues which are padded, this one has padding on specific areas to relieve pressure when the laces are tightening, but it is thinner, and is attached to the sides, and extends downward for a supportive feel.

The Fit Counter was added to the heel part of the upper. Comprised of two structures that cup both sides of the heel, it leaves a bit of space in between for the Achilles Tendon to move freely. It stabilizes the heel and improves the fit on this part of the shoe without limiting the runner’s range of motion.
