Size and fit

These Pharrell Williams Solar Hu NMDs come in men’s sizes which range from 3 to 14. The soft Primeknit uppers do not provide much in the way of lateral or medial support, but many have found the shoes to be perfectly functional for walking and jogging.

The shoes are reportedly longer than posted measurements by about a half size. The fit is also somewhat narrow, which can be confusing for some. However, since the uppers are made of Primeknit, the material can stretch a bit.

Adjustment of the fit can be made through the sneakers’ unusual lacing system which uses round laces threaded through TPU cages.

Adidas Pharrell Williams Solar Hu NMD Style

These Solar Hu NMD kicks carry Pharrell’s usual exuberant and vividly colorful styling. The different shades contrast and complement each other in these shoes where the white midsoles tie off everything neatly together.

Wear these kicks with dark, solid hues to balance the vibrant shades and to place the focus on your footwear instead.

Pair with cropped jeans to make your shoes extra visible and top off with your favorite casual shirt. Or pair with a hiking-inspired outfit to match the shoes’ trail soles.

Notable Features

Pharrell Williams has made a career in knowing exactly what his followers want, be it in music or his design ventures. And it seems that he got it right again with the release of his Solar HU NMD range.

As with any Pharrell merch, there’s plenty of buzz surrounding it. However, the buzz is extremely justified in these kicks. The Primeknit uppers are made of a one-piece knitted fabric that brings a sock-like comfort to the feet. Boost midsoles provide a responsive cushioning system that gives back plenty of energy with every stride you make.

Adidas Pharrell Williams Solar Hu NMD History

Pharrell’s NMD Hu line was first seen in the year 2016, two years after Pharrell signed a long-term partnership with Adidas. His Hu range, short for Health Ultimatum, featured the celebrated Boost cushioning, Primeknit uppers, and a distinctive lacing system.

The first few releases featured several colorful designs with words such as “Human” and “Being” stamped in large print across the uppers of the shoes.

One year after the Hu NMD launch, a trail version came out called Adidas x Pharrell Williams Hu NMD Trail. These featured mostly the same design except for the addition of saw-tooth outsoles underneath the Boost for added trail functionality. Several variations of these debuted including a China-Exclusive and the popular Hu Holi Blank Canvas and Holi Festival Packs.

In the year 2018, Pharrell tinkered with the design of his Hu NMDs yet again and replaced the saw-tooth outsoles with blunt-edged ones. He also added in African tribal details and binary code-style graphics on the shoes. These new kicks were accompanied by two Tennis Hu silhouettes (also known as Adidas Tennis Hu v2s) in the Solar Hu Pack and were called Pharrell Williams Solar Hu NMDs.

An Inspiration Pack of Pharrell Williams’ Solar Hu NMDs was also released late that year. The base of the uppers carried a more subdued look with a mostly tonal shade contrasted only by the colorful collars (the same as that from the original Solar Hu release) and contrasting laces, outsoles, and TPU cages. The uppers also featured printed encouraging words embroidered in black Chinese characters.
