Good to know

The Adidas Originals x Neighborhood Kamanda 01 shoes are made with a low-top profile, obtainable in men’s sizes from 7.5 to 13 US, in medium width. These kicks are generally true-to-size and can be grabbed in full and half sizes. Its unusual, off-center lacing arrangement can be adjusted to your desired fit. Though the midsole appears like a crimped block of gum rubber, it is embedded with a lightweight EVA foam for impact absorption.

The modern Samba gets another modified interpretation wearing a brashly gummed-up sole under the guise of the Adidas Neighborhood Kamanda 01. Two different shades are up for grabs, the Cargo Olive and Core Black. Decked out in military-themed premium suede cover with an enlarged “Neighborhood” branding, the Kamanda 01 offers an interesting contrast to dark and tapered jeans, track pants, and tactical cargo pants.

The monstrous, outdoorsy look of the Adidas Kamanda 01 x Neighborhood is its apparent desirability. The use of premium suede is a plus factor as it makes the outlandish midsole-outsole pop even more. Unlike the original Adidas Originals Kamanda, this collaborative master craft is devised with a lopsided lacing unit that completes its avant-garde style.

Japan’s streetwear label Neighborhood and Germany’s mega-sports brand Adidas teased soccer fans and sneaker lovers with the drop of the Adidas Neighborhood Kamanda 01 as part of their collaborative  Spring/Summer 2018 capsule. The tweaked Adidas Kamanda echoes the soccer terrace culture of the ‘80s, particularly the rise of casual designer clothing worn by fans during the games that incited friction among rival teams. The sneaker also took cues from the military street-style fashion of motorcycle gangs from the ensuing era.

For the Adidas x Neighborhood Kamanda 01, the two merging brands played up with its traditional lacing structure of the Samba and gave it an asymmetrical configuration for extra spunk. The unconventional shape of the Kamanda 01 collaborative piece seemed like a perfect reflection of the subcultures it was drawn from, finished off in Olive Cargo and Core Black keeping up with the superficially subversive theme.

The Neighborhood x Adidas Kamanda 01 kept the velvety suede exterior of the original model and the rough, exaggerated look of the gum midsole and outsole. Such distinctive and screaming sole is essentially a modified take on the unreleased 1989 Kamanda prototype, inspired by the Adidas Samba.

Other low-top sneakers showcased in the Adidas x Neighborhood collection apart from the Adidas NBHD Kamanda 01 are the Adidas I-5923 (formerly Adidas Iniki) and the Adidas Stan Smith Boost. The graphics on each pair were done by LA-based artist Cali Thornhill DeWitt, the visual designer who teamed up with Yeezy Boost series author Kanye West for his Life of Pablo merchandise.

  • The Adidas x Neighborhood Kamanda 01 was released on June 23, 2018.
  • Neighborhood was established by Shinsuke Takizawa, who is famous for his US-influenced styling.
  • The Adidas Kamanda Bodega is another Kamanda collaborative work, while the Adidas Country x Kamanda is a hybrid version influenced by retro running and terrace fashion.
