The Marathon Tech sneakers from Adidas Originals are kept secure by the flat shoelace enclosure in front holding the tongue and midfoot in place. It is a unisex product available in men’s sizing. Women should go 1.5 sizes down to get an equivalent fitting for the low-top sneaker.

The vintage-looking Adidas Marathon Tech is a picture-perfect sneaker to wear for those trying to achieve a classic look from the 1980s to the 1990s. The retro running sneaker is an unadulterated casual wear sneaker for both men and women. The inclusion of bright colorways especially for women gives it a beautiful touch for some youthful styling.

The OG colorways of the Adidas Marathon Tech when it was launched as part of the Never Made collection include the Triple Black and Blue colorways. Then when it was finally released as separate Adidas Originals models include running white/cloud white, core black/cloud white, carbon/shock red/core black, clear brown/hi-res yellow/ecru tint.

Two more colorways were dropped a month later exclusively for women. These are the Purple and Tan colorways of the Adidas Marathon Tech.

Here are some styling suggestions of the Adidas Marathon Tech for men and women:

  • For Men: The men’s black and white Adidas Originals Marathon Tech shoes may be worn with jeans, joggers, track pants, and shorts and topped with tees, button-down shirts, hoodies, and jackets.
  • For Women: The women’s Adidas Originals Marathon Tech in bright colorways like purple and shock red would complement any casual women’s wear like leggings, joggers, denim skirts, and shorts.

The most salient component of the retro-styled sneaker is its Boost cushioning midsole that is an upgrade to the original shoe. Making the wearing experience more comfortable, Adidas’ responsive Boost cushioning allows for a responsive and comfortable midsole that delivers outstanding energy return. The throwback design also retained the Dellinger Web in the midsole for extra comfort and stability in the midfoot.

The Adidas Marathon Tech takes its silhouette from the Adidas Marathon TR. The iconic trail running shoe introduced the brand in the running scene from Boston to Berlin. The trail runner was famous footwear because of its fantastic grip and traction patterns that were used in most trail running events.

The design of the sneaker was personally overseen by the German brand’s founder Adi Dassler. The initial model also had a Dellinger web midsole for additional comfort. The Marathon stayed in the company’s archive for more than two decades before it was re-released in 2018.

Also released by Adidas Originals in 2018 as part of the Never Made collection is the Adidas Marathon x 5923 which made use of the Iniki upper’s features fused with the Marathon’s with an improved Boost midsole. The Adidas Marathon tech, meanwhile, stayed true to its roots by retaining the composition of the Adidas Marathon’s upper aesthetics and materials such as suede and mesh. The retro upper design also sits on the comfortable Boost midsole with a Dellinger web pattern that resembles the original vintage design. The Adidas Marathon Tech sneaker dropped at an affordable $120 price.

  • Adidas signature Trefoil logo is displayed at the tongue and heel back.
  • A durable rubber outsole provides grip and traction.
