Good to know

The Adidas BW Avenue is available in men’s sizes. This pair is considered unisex; hence women are advised to take a full size and a half down their usual size when referring to the men’s sizes. It has the traditional lace-up closure for a secure fit and a pull tab in easiness in wearing this on.

The low-top Adidas BW Avenue from Adidas' Originals lineup was inspired by the retro German army indoor training shoe with a tennis-inspired design. This shoe delivers a clean and timeless style that can be easily styled for casual wearing. The soft leather upper gives an authentic throwback vibe, while the suede details add texture.  Many users can be seen sporting this lifestyle straightforward and clean kick with jeans, joggers, or even shorts with tees and hoodies.

One striking feature of the Adidas BW Avenue is the presence of the soft leather upper with a T-toe suede overlay. These features provide a classic throwback vibe at the same time a modernized feel.

Back in 1936, the Dassler brothers convinced the American legend Jesse Owens to sport hand-made split-toe leather kicks with spikes for his competing events. Owens luckily won the 100meter, 200meter, long jump, and 4x100meter events which also translated to the sales of the Dassler’s shoe company.

Although the two brothers have split and formed their own companies, a shoe silhouette molded from the spike shoe of Owens started to unfold. In the 70s, the German army commissioned the Dassler brothers, this time from different companies namely Adidas and Puma, to create a design exclusive for the German army. This shoe was called the German Army Trainer (GAT) while Germans refer to it as the Bundeswehr Sportschuhe, which can be directly translated as the “Federal Defense Sports Shoe.”

The German embraced the leather upper with gumsole design and used it as their de facto indoor training shoe. This design was merited for its comfort and practicality rather than its aesthetic appeal. Countless re-imaginations and versions by various companies were released in the market.  Recently, Maison Margiela released a high-class replica of GAT and described it as the entry-level to the world of expensive sneakers. Its value is far more expensive than the Jordans but considered more wearable and stylish.

The German Army Trainer kicks have turned into an essential part of the modern wardrobe. It has been a mainstay for fans who are into minimal design and low-top stylish sneakers. The Adidas BW Avenue is one example of the contemporary reinterpretation of the classic GAT. Adidas incorporated modern court-inspired details to make it more stylish.

  • It also features leather lining for an enhanced luxurious feel.
  • It has the Trefoil logo on the tongue and heel patch.
  • The iconic 3-Stripe is interpreted through perforations.
