Tretorn Nylite Canvas History

During the industrial revolution, a manufacturing company was launched in Sweden, formed by Johan Dunker. He named it Helsingborgs Gummifabriks AB which was later on renamed to Tretorn to pay homage to the three towers of the original company.

Tretorn first ventured in manufacturing tires and expanded in providing galoshes or waterproof rubber overshoes that will keep the shoes dry and clean. In 1892, from 39,000 pairs, the company grew exponentially to 206,000 pairs of galoshes in two years. That growth was credited to the hard work of Henry, Johan's son, who served as the only salesman for the company.

This momentous development led the company to further expand their product lines from galoshes to tennis balls, bicycle parts, and hoses. While considered bizarre, these products set the Tretorn apart from the other companies which further boosted their popularity.

Tretorn unveiled one of their iconic silhouettes the Nylite in 1967. This tennis kick dominated the sports around the globe for its utmost comfort and versatility. Contributing to its fame is Bjorn Borg, a world-class tennis player from Sweden, vouched for this pair's unmatched comfort on and off the courts.

Eventually, because of the Nylite's stylish features, this model was able to traverse the casual fashion. It was seen sported by celebrities like Jackie O and Farah Fawcett. The Tretorn Nylite was dubbed as the first ever luxury sports shoes in the market.

Tretorn introduced several variations of Nylite in the market to cover a vast array of consumers. One of it is the Tretorn Nylite Canvas which displays the classic tennis profile detailed with bicycle toe stitches and the iconic Gullwing logo.
