Tretorn Nylite 1891 History

The Tretorn Nylite was created as a performance-based tennis shoe in 1967. Due to its functionality, it became one of the favorite low-profile sneakers that appeared on the clay, grass, and hard courts during the reign of top seeders Bjorn Borg and Martina Navratilova, from the 1970s to 1990s. Borg was also the first pro player who was seen sporting the Tretorn Nylite on and off the court that skyrocketed this tennis shoe’s appeal to superstar status.

The Tretorn Nylite was quickly recognized for its blinding white cover highlighted by a dark blue gullwing on the side panels. Its regal appearance made it the first luxurious casual shoe that has won the hearts of the elite class, back in the day. In fact, by the late 1980s, the Tretorn Nylite migrated into the fashion world and was included as one of the must-have sneakers in The Official Preppy Handbook, a reference guide to elite fashion and lifestyle.

In celebration of its 50th year, this iconic profile was reimagined through creative renditions, which includes a pre-distressed version called the Tretorn Nylite 1891. The numerical value represents the year Tretorn was established while the worn out look embraces the castoff style of some of the expensive kicks that dominate today’s high streetwear fashion.

Also in 2017, Tretorn teamed up with 50 artists all over the world to produce custom sneaker creations using the Tretorn Nylite as their blank canvas. Today, this popular style is obtainable in a range of colors and fabrics using different comfort elements and tech features while it remains to be a well sought-out Tretorn sneaker.

Tretorn Nylite 1891 Style

Tretorn adhered to the craze over pre-distressed sneaker production and reinvented its classic white Nylite with a sprayed-on, tattered finish giving the old style a new spirit. The box-fresh Nylite 1891 kept the modest look of the old school tennis shoe and dressed it in worn-out leather and shoelace. Its eye-grabbing defiant look smoothly rocks a pair of cropped jeans, while it gives cargos, capris, and khakis a funky vibe.

Fit & Sizing

The reimagined low-top Tretorn Nylite 1891 that’s seemingly caked with grime and dirt fairly runs true to size. Its winsome EcoOrtholite offers remarkable cushioning that grants all-day comfort. The spacious front does not restrict the toes during movement. This sneaker is available in two designs for men and women in sizes ranging from 7 to 14 and 4 to 12 for the men’s and women’s respectively.

Notable Features

Tretorn’s iconic low-top Nylite ceases to retire from the shelves as it continues to survive the changing trends and remains a much sought-after, street-ready sneaker using updated colors, fabrics, and designs. The distressed looking Tretorn Nylite 1891 gets the nod of style-savvy consumers, in spite of the smudgy detailing on its laces, body, and cupsole. Coupled by its comfort and durable features, including the cushioned EcoOrtholite and textured sole, this radical-appearing sneaker still embodies the sophisticated signature look of the classic model, which makes this shoe suitable on the streets and even to fancy dinners.
