Nathan Swartz, way back in the year 1952, obtained half an interest of The Abington Shoe Company and started out with contractual works for other manufacturers. The full interest of the company was then acquired by Swartz as he perceived its probable capabilities. By the year 1955, an investment for all other shareholders was made by Swartz.

A new technology was then developed by The Abington Company for its footwear products a decade later. It required an injection-molded procedure. Through this development, the brand was able to facilitate a production of virtually waterproof boots that varies with temperature between cold and warm.

In 1969, the company relocated to Newmarket, New Hampshire. The company then officially called “The Timberland Company” in the year 1973. These changes that the company made were led by the massive popularity that the waterproof boots obtained. More products such as casual and boat boots were added to the brand’s collection around 1978-1979.

The company’s voyage to expansion continued through the 1990’s, and more products line were added into the collection. The brand’s influence also expanded throughout the different regions of the globe.
