Updates to The North Face Ultra 110 GTX
- The Ultra 110 GTX from The North Face is an update on a trail running shoe; it now features a Gore-Tex® waterproof upper with mudguards on top of a responsive midsole and a durable outsole. The result is a shoe that protects the foot not only from rain but also from mud.
- A tried-and-tested compression-molded foam is present in the midsole to supply a cushioning that is both comfortable and energy-returning. Meanwhile, the outsole employs UltrATAC™ rubber, guaranteeing traction on all surfaces.
The North Face Ultra 110 GTX size and fit
The North Face Ultra 110 GTX has a standard running shoe length, and it comes in a variety of sizes. The shoe’s construction provides a comfortable fit for runners with a narrow to moderate foot volume. It is available in medium width for both the men’s and women’s versions.
This shoe uses an UltrATAC™ outsole, which is a rubber material that works in all terrains and all conditions – hence the ATAC in its name. The efficacy of this material is observable at the outsole’s adequately spaced lugs. With such a design, the shoe collects less mud and snow, thus maintaining traction even in sloppy terrains.
The lugs display a multi-directional layout, allowing grip and control on any surface. With this feature, even the most rugged trails could be effortless for the runner.
Using compression-molded ethylene-vinyl acetate (CMEVA) foam in the midsole, the Ultra 110 GTX promises a lightweight cushioning that also delivers a responsive ride and durable underfoot protection. This type of foam also arms the shoe with a shock-absorbing property, thus ensuring the energy from the impact is put to practical use.
Underneath the EVA foam is a midfoot shank, which is a sturdy support unit that enables torsional rigidity and protects the foot from bruising. It endorses a stable ride and lessens fatigue that is usually caused by extended runs.
The OrthoLite® sock liner offers additional cushioning and underfoot comfort while also keeping the foot healthy and odor-free, thanks to its antimicrobial property.
The upper of the Ultra 110 GTX is made of a combination of elements. The base material is a lightweight mesh that equips the shoe with a breathable quality. On top is a Gore-Tex® membrane that wraps the mesh for a waterproof running shoe that keeps the foot dry even during rain and snow days.
There are leather overlays and rear quarter panels that support the upper. They also secure the foot, preventing unnecessary movements and promoting a steady stride. These installations have an additional function of staving off mud that could potentially affect the pace.
Another protective unit is the shoe’s toe cap. This part is made of thermoplastic urethane (TPU), which guarantees its durability without the added bulk.
The tongue has a gusseted structure that works capably in shielding the foot from debris.
