Nice boots for the cold days.
These boots are very, very tough.
Updates to The North Face Tsumoru
- The North Face’s Tsumoru is designed to help wearers handle the trail in wintry conditions. Its primary ability to keep the foot toasty in the cold is courtesy of PrimaLoft’s insulation technology.
- Allowing users to make smoother push offs is the boot’s rockered sole unit. It is comprised mainly of a brand-exclusive outsole and an injection-molded midsole.
The North Face Tsumoru size and fit
The Tsumoru from The North Face is a relatively true-to-size, mid-cut winter hiker for men and women. Its fit widthwise is specific for regular-footed wearers. It comes in a range of half and whole sizes. Its classic lacing system provides a customized lockdown.
Winter Grip, an exclusive outsole engineered by The North Face, is what gives hikers ample slip resistance on snow-covered trails. It is built with toothy lugs and shallow grooves to enhance its capability to latch onto soft and slippery surfaces. On top of traction, this sticky layer also grants decent toe protection with its forefoot tip.
The North Face engineers equipped the Tsumoru with an injection-molded midsole made of ethylene-vinyl acetate, or EVA. It is crafted sturdy yet cushy to help winter adventurers experience the trail with sufficient underfoot protection and stability. It has a shank confined within its midfoot section to improve the arch support it provides.
Atop this springy platform is the hiker’s removable footbed. It contributes to the amount of comfort given by the midsole while offering extra heel support with the cupped design of its rearfoot section.
The Tsumoru’s over-the-ankle upper comes in two parts. The bottom segment (its shell-like base) is made of EVA, while the rest of the shaft—from the instep up—is made of PU-coated ballistic mesh. It is imbued with two kinds of technologies that heavily emphasize its utility in cold conditions: a Hydroseal membrane and 200 grams of PrimaLoft’s Silver Insulation Eco. The former bars out most types of wet elements, while the latter provides adequate warmth. Lastly, there is a tri-looped pull tab engineered on its heel for quicker on and off.
