It's really cushioned and really feel that bounce.
The shoe could be more breathable, and the materials could feel less bulky.
Is the GOrun Ultra a Hoka for only $80? Sadly not, but it's closer than you might expect, though the cost per mile probably works out more than the longer lasting Hokas.
I really wouldn't call the new GRU an update per se, more of a facelift is what I would categorize it as. Aside from its newer look, it handles exactly the same as its older brother.
Updates to Skechers GOrun Ultra 2
- Those who are gearing up for a running shoe that is able to provide maximum cushioning are going to get it from the 2nd version of the GORun Ultra. Featuring a thick mid-sole unit that is able to provide cushioning, flexibility and impact protection, this shoe is sure to keep the foot well-supported at all times.
- The upper unit of this shoe makes use of synthetic materials and mesh to create a strong and supportive coverage that’s also breathable. The overlay system is fused directly onto the upper, though some layers have been stitched onto the fabric to maintain its structure. The upper is protective and comfortable, still.
- The interior fabric lining of the Skechers GOrun Ultra 2 is soft, therefore making it possible to wear it without socks. Doing so gives a bit more space for the foot to relax and not feel too restricted.
- The outsole unit has been optimized to function well on the trails. Durable protection is a main feature of this layer, but reliable traction is enhanced for this model. It can hold onto the surfaces pretty well, whether it’s soft or rugged. Slippage is greatly prevented because of such a function.
Skechers GOrun Ultra 2 size and fit
The Skechers GOrun Ultra 2 fits large. It is recommended for runners to choose one that is ½ size smaller than what they’re used to in order to get a more agreeable length for their feet. Its heel, mid-foot and forefoot areas have a medium width, so it accommodates those with medium-sized feet. The stretchable upper fabric can still admit those with wider feet.
The Resagrip outsole is a responsive unit made from a combination of materials that cause the shoe to hold onto the surfaces well. Its traction capability makes it a reliable layer when traversing the unpredictable terrain. It even adds a bit more cushioning, so that each step remains comfortable and well-supported.
The GOimpulse Sensors provide additional traction on the trails. It makes the platform more responsive and it even aggressively holds onto tougher and more unpredictable ground, thus improving terrain control and increasing the confidence of the runner whilst performing.
The mid-sole makes use of a very thick foam that delivers maximum cushioning to the foot of the wearer. The Resalyte foam is a compound that’s injection-molded into the platform. It delivers high levels of flexibility, protection from impact and superior underfoot cushioning.
The M-Strike is a platform design that encourages mid-foot striking, which is more efficient as it distributes impact shock more evenly throughout the foot. Mid-foot striking also makes it easier to transition towards the forefoot for a faster toe-off.
The main upper material was made from a mix of synthetic materials and mesh. It makes the top unit of the shoe stronger, yet breathable and flexible. It wraps the foot snugly, but doesn’t make it feel too tight.
The 4-way stretch mesh on the side panels allows the upper unit to flex more, thus accommodating those with wider foot-dimensions. Naturally, the high quality material doesn’t easily break down or lose integrity.
The overlays have been stitched onto the upper unit, though some of it has been directly fused. This stitched-on unit supports the upper fabric in wrapping itself around the foot, giving additional security when it is needed.
The Ortholite Sock Liner features anti-microbial and anti-moisture properties, so it gives a healthy and clean environment for the foot to rest on.
