For those looking for a 5k-10k (possibly up to half to full marathon and definitely down to the mile) racer with a responsive ride, a plate and a snug fit, look no farther. The sole is responsive and a little protective for a variety of workouts or races. The upper holds the foot well and is extremely lightweight. This shoe is a great example of the very serious direction Skechers Performance continues to take.
The Skechers Performance GO Meb Speed 5 is a great racing flat. For my money it’s a better feeling shoe than the Sub 2 and it is about 60 bucks cheaper too. It’s really comfortable, has a super breathable upper and does well at any speed.
Outstanding shoe, especially if you are ballin on a budget. I have not run in the Sub 2, so I won’t throw that comparison out there, but it’s almost as good as the Reebok Floatride Run Fast. The fit is better in the Fast for me. But overall, a great shoe from a brand that continues to get better year after year.
Updates to Skechers GOmeb Speed 5
- In its latest version, the Skechers GOmeb Speed claims to be the fastest shoe in the brand’s running gear line-up. This neutral runner is designed for race day; thus, users should expect a light and speedy performance from the shoe.
- With an updated overall design, the shoe displays new elements from the upper to the outsole. First, a more lightweight air mesh promotes a unique combination of breathability and support. Inside is the brand’s FLIGHT GEN™ midsole that is also more compact than before, for effortless movement while racing.
- The shoe’s parametric web outsole is ornamented with DuPont® elements to deliver a ride that quick, stable, and structured.
Skechers GOmeb Speed 5 size and fit
As it is available in a width profile of medium for both men and women, the Skechers GOmeb Speed 5 also has a length that follows the running shoe standard. The midfoot and heel areas have a semi-narrow structure, making the shoe ideal for wearers with low or medium foot volume.
With a parametric web design, the outsole of the Skechers GOmeb Speed 5 enables a durable protection and versatile traction on multiple surfaces. The outsole’s webbed design allows an even dispersal of grip and flexibility throughout the rest of the shoe.
The FLIGHT GEN™ feature of the GOmeb Speed 5 is a midsole material that offers an ultra-light cushioning while activating a highly responsive ride. FLIGHT GEN™ considers itself as a powerful shoe technology as it provides the runner an efficient stride, a stable yet comfortable ride, all inside a featherweight package. This midsole technology is used in the GOrun 6 and other best-selling running shoes from Skechers.
A DuPont® Delrin® plate is present in the midfoot area. It acts as a stability plate, giving the shoe a high-rebound quality. It also contributes to the structural framework of the GOmeb Speed 5.
The 4 mm offset of the shoe encourages a midfoot strike, and this is further promoted by the M Strike feature. The M Strike is a unit inserted in the center of the midsole to make the midsole prominent and guide the landing towards this area. Having a midfoot strike benefits the runner as it takes impact away from the joints. It also endorses a fast pace.
The GOmeb Speed 5 has a sublimated air mesh upper that works by maximizing airflow around the shoe. The mesh is installed in the shoe in such a way that it wraps the foot, not only for a contoured fit but also for support.
Augmenting the breathability of the shoe is the translucent mesh vamp and the ripstop mesh quarter. These two portions of differing materials bring their own level of ventilation that ensures all sides of the foot receive optimal comfort.
An external heel counter provides support and structure in the rearfoot area. This feature is made of DuPont® Hytrel®, a thermoplastic unit that is known for its flexibility and durability far more significant than ordinary rubber.
The Skechers GOmeb Speed 5 has a unique lockdown lacing system that offers additional security, as well as a flexible fit.
