Overall we found the Scarpa Moraine GTX Women’s hiking shoes to be a relatively light, comfortable and flexible shoe, appropriate for walking or hiking on a variety of trail types.

Also, the Moraine GTX is ready to tackle almost any terrain, something I appreciate in the diverse landscape of the Pacific Northwest.

  • The Moraine GTX is given a new look by Scarpa. Although it still has a mostly leather upper with waterproofing from Gore-Tex, its entirety is modernized and redesigned.
  • Its abrasion-resistant toe rand was tweaked as well. It covers more forefoot area compared with the last model.
  • Scarpa engineers gave the Moraine GTX a Vibram outsole, called Dynatech 3. It features different lug patterns than the previous build’s Scarpa-designed outsole.

The Moraine GTX from Scarpa is a below-the-ankle day hiking shoe for men and women. It has an adequately true-to-size fit. It is offered in regular width in a range of full and half sizes. The women’s version is built around a female-specific last. The shoe’s classic lacing system allows users to achieve their desired fit.

Promising traction on the trail come rain or shine is the Vibram Dynatech 3 outsole. Based on the XS Trek compound, this proprietary component gets to stay responsive on different types of terrain without sacrificing comfort and stability. Its lugs are specially designed to provide multi-directional grip.

The Scarpa Moraine GTX has a dual-density compression-molded midsole for the user’s ground cushioning and stability. It is made of ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), a kind of foam that rivals rubber in terms of toughness and stress resistance. Resting snugly on top of this cushy yet tough platform is the removable Arch Suspension insole for support and extra cushioning.

Nubuck and suede leather overlays were used in the Moraine GTX’s 1.8-millimeter thick upper to maintain the form of the shoe. Its vent panels are made of recycled polyester. It is engineered with Gore-Tex’s Extended Comfort membrane for waterproofing and internal moisture management. A sturdy toe rand is placed on the shoe’s forefoot region to shield the toes from bumps and abrasive elements.

Securing the foot within the upper’s confines is the shoe’s classic closure system. It consists of slim synthetic laces, leather lace loops, and plated eyelets.
