- Salomon X-Chase Mid GTX is an over-the-ankle hiker crafted for individuals who want to go fast on the trails without carrying a bulk on their feet. It offers protection through its durable upper equipped with safety features such as the mudguard, heel and toe caps and gusseted tongue. Weatherproofing comes from the Gore-Tex laminate.

- Promoting an efficient ride is a molded EVA midsole paired with the brand's Agile Chassis System or ACS. An EVA shaped footbed and Ortholite sockliner sit atop the midsole to amplify underfoot comfort. 

- Surface traction comes from the Contagrip outsole. It has pronounced lugs that bite into various ground surfaces. 

The X-Chase Mid GTX from Salomon caters to men and women. This speed hiking shoe is available in whole and half sizes and comes in medium width. Generally, it runs true to size. The cleat's speed lace system helps customize and lock-in the fit. The brand's Sensifit feature hugs the foot comfortably.

The X-Chase Mid GTX employs a Wet Traction Contagrip outsole. Its rubber formulation is designed to bite into most types of terrain. Its tread profile includes pronounced lugs that anchor on the ground, whether wet or dry. The studs are widely separated that encourages responsiveness and automatic shedding of mud and other trail debris.

Salomon's X-Chase Mid GTX comes with a molded EVA midsole for cushioning. It works with the brand's very own Agile Chassis System that provides steadiness over rugged terrain. It also helps in mitigating shocks from ground impacts. 

This watertight cleat for hiking employs an EVA shaped footbed that renders an anatomically designed support. It is topped with a durable Ortholite sockliner that amplifies comfort through its moisture management. This unit is made of recycled tire content that will provide long-lasting cushioning.

This lightweight trail cleat wears a PU-coated leather and textile upper. Its interior is lined with a Gore-Tex Extended Comfort laminate that enhances breathability while keeping water out. This membrane is engineered for active use. A gusseted tongue helps prevent the entry of unwanted trail debris.

This outdoor product is designed with toe and synthetic heel caps that protect against jagged edges. The mudguard placed at the midfoot also helps in keeping the cleat in good shape when tacking technical terrain. These features also help amplify the cleat's durability. 

For fit management, the X-Chase Mid GTX's employs the brand-owned Quicklace system. A lace pocket is placed on the tongue to keep the excess cord from dangling. A heel tab assists in easy on and off.

 

Choosing between Salomon and Adidas might be a tough choice as both brands offer a likable pair of fastpacking shoes. This section focuses on the Salomon X-Chase Mid GTX and Adidas Terrex Fast Mid GTX Surround differences and similarities.

Availability. Both trail cleats cater to men and women. They are manufactured in standard (medium) width only.

Upper. Salomon's X-Chase Mid GTX has an upper made of PU coated leather and textile.  It is also designed with mudguard and heel and toe rubber caps that boost the protection of the cleat when tackling rocky grounds.

The Terrex Fast Mid GTX Surround, on the other hand, uses synthetic leather and textile. Its front and back ends are also reinforced for extra trail security. These cleats offer almost the same level of protection outdoors considering the similarity of the materials and design. 

Closure system. These Salomon and Adidas products use a quick-to-adjust lacing system with that has their own lace pockets (stows the excess lace to keep it from dangling). The X-Chase Mid GTX employs the Salomon-owned Quicklace system.

Lining. Both boots have a Gore-Tex laminate. However, they differ in the type of laminate used. With the Salomon offering, it uses the Gore-Tex Extended Comfort laminate. It is optimized for use in high output activities, offering maximum breathability. The Adidas product employs the Gore-Tex Surround technology. It yields 360-degree ventilation that channels heat and moisture away from the foot, thanks to the openings visible at the side of the sole. 

Midsole. The Terrex Fast Mid GTX Surround has an EVA midsole and Ortholite footbed to address comfort and cushioning underfoot. The X-Chase Mid GTX also carries an EVA midsole, but its benefits are optimized by a unique-to-Salomon feature, the Agile Chassis System. It renders stability and shock absorption. Additionally, amplifying cushioning is an EVA shaped footbed and an Ortholite sockliner.

Outsole. The X-Chase Mid GTX from Salomon wears a Wet Traction Contagrip outsole while the Terrex Fast Mid GTX Surround from Adidas carries a Continental Rubber outsole. These rubber formulations are optimized to yield optimal grip in wet conditions.
