Who should buy the Salomon Wildcross 2

The Wildcross 2 from Salomon is a must-buy for trail runners who want a:

  • grippy trail shoe on mud, snow-covered, and wet trail surfaces
  • comfortable, stable, and light alternative for hiking

Wildcross 2 vs. 1

This time, Salomon has played around with the upper with the intent of providing a:

  • snugger fit overall
  • more protective yet comfier wrap
  • a more durable outsole

A solid bite on demanding terrains

Whether it's on dry, wet, muddy, or snow-filled trails, runners agree that the Wildcross 2 inspires a surefooted ride on the unfriendliest trails.

Salomon Wildcross 2 traction

Traction aside, the upper is very protective and does a great job at keeping the foot warm during cold temps. However, the tradeoff for this is that it's less breathable for humid conditions.

Solid AF

It's built like a tank. Contrary to the past version, the second iteration of the Salomon Wildcross has a more durable outsole. Previously, the outsole easily got separated from the midsole. But in this version, it's no longer an issue.

Say goodbye to toe bumps

There's a "solid" rubber toe cap in the forefoot that droves of testers love so much. Not only does it strengthen the shoe, but it also shields the foot from gnarly rocks and roots.

The upper and midsole work so well together; many are in awe of the comfort they provide. The upper is soft; there are NO reports of abrasion or blisters even after prolonged hours of use.

Meanwhile, the midsole is neither too soft nor rigid. Several trail runners claim that their feet "felt great."

Nimble and agile

This shoe only weighs in at 306 g/10.7 oz in US M 9. On average, trail shoes weigh in at 298 g/10.5 oz. Despite it being a tad heavier than the standard trail running shoe, multiple reviewers still swear by its lightness.

According to them, it's easy to move fast with the unheavy design of the Salomon Wildcross.

Tying the laces is a cinch

Thanks to Salomon's Quicklace system, tying the laces doesn't have to be finicky.

Heel stays in place

The ankle collar is padded and so is the heel tab. Even more, they're slightly raised higher than before, allowing a more precise and lockdown rearfoot hold.

The toe box is a miss

A few broad-footed runners state that the Salomon Wildcross 2's new upper has "limited" the space in the toe box. So much so, there's no longer any wiggle room, especially when the foot starts to swell.
