Other than the exceptional cushioning underneath my feet I hardly noticed I was wearing them which is the mark of a good pair of shoes.
Comfort — that’s what Salming intended to emulate when it designed the Hawk. This volleyball shoe is designed from the outsole to the top with technologies that envelop the foot in a cozy environment. The midsole is made of shock-absorbing foam that is bouncy. Though it is crafted to deliver comfort, it also has elements on the upper and outsole that aims to stabilize the foot during agile movements.
Traction. The bottom of the Hawk is protected by lightweight rubber. It is crafted to be durable to withstand abrasions. It features the HexaGrip tread pattern which enhances the grip of the compound on indoor surfaces.
Stability. This Salming volleyball shoe has an outsole that uses the TGS 62/75 construction. TGS or Torsion Guide System is designed with 62% of the outsole, from the heel to the ball of the foot, having extra stability because of its relatively flat disposition. The ballet line, which is at a 75-degree angle, marks the end of the TGS. Above this line are more grooves that facilitate natural foot flexion for a smoother heel-to-toe transition.
The medial side of the outsole wraps up, creating what Salming calls the RollBar technology. It helps the foot to roll inwards in a controlled manner as well as pushing off the ground using the big toe or the inner side of the foot.
As for lateral stability, the outer sides of the heel and the forefoot feature the LMS+ or Lateral Movement Stabilizer Plus. These components extend up to the midsole, keeping the foot at a positive angle of 8 degrees. This position prevents the foot from rolling outwards.
The midsole of the Salming Hawk is made of the RECOIL ERF - Energy Rebound Foam. This compound is manufactured to be lightweight and bouncy for better shock attenuation. Inside the trainer, there is a SoftFOAM heel insert that amplifies shock absorption by 70% compared to traditional EVA foam.
Comfort. The top of the Salming Hawk uses four layers of fused air mesh. Its seamless construction ensures that no protruding elements would irritate the foot. The innermost layer is smooth while the middle ones render support. The topmost sheet is a net mesh that protects the other underlying fabrics. Despite the multi-layer top, the foot chamber remains fresh because the upper material is breathable. This volleyball shoe employs a gusset tongue, which means it is attached, preventing it from moving out of place during gameplay.
Protection. At the toe box is a rubber cap. It protects the toes against painful bumps as well as friction from dragging during service.
Steadiness. The back of the shoe features the Ergo Heel Cup. It is designed to be longer than traditional heel cups to deliver better fit and comfort to the wearer. This component aims to steady the rearfoot.
Fit. A fully integrated ExoSkeleton lines the midfoot of the Hawk. This cage-like element is connected to the lacing system, which then enhances the lateral support as the shoestrings are cinched.
