They made some really great design improvements on this boot.
This is a monster of a boot (we mean that in a good way), one that’s made for the trickiest of terrain – think alpine mountaineering or ascents of winter munros.
So far, the Salewa Vultur Evo GTX is easily standing up to my expectations.
Updates to Salewa Vultur Evo GTX
- Salewa crafted the Vultur Evo GTX for harsh alpine conditions. Its leather upper is paired with Gore-Tex laminate to grant comfort and weather protection.
- Underfoot, it employs proprietary Salewa technologies which include Bilight midsole and Multi Fit Footbed + (MFF+) for comfort. To maintain in-shoe freshness, the boot received an antimicrobial treatment called Cleansport NXT.
- A sturdy Vibram outsole connects the user to the ground. It has an aggressive profile which promotes traction on various terrain types.
Salewa Vultur Evo GTX size and fit
The Vultur Evo GTX from Salewa is a mountaineering boot that caters to men and women. It is offered in regular sizes and standard width. It generally runs true to size.
To optimize fit and trail performance, this Salewa gear wears the 3D Lacing and Climbing Lacing features. The former divides the closure system into three sections (forefoot, midfoot and cuff). The latter provides precise adjustment in the toe area.
The Salewa Vultur Evo GTX employs a Vibram WTC outsole. This robust material comes with aggressive treads that do not sacrifice the natural feel of the ground. Its multidirectional lugs at the center provide 360-degree traction. The wide indentations on its surface prevent muck build-up. The forefoot (climbing zone) and the rearfoot regions are styled to be more responsive during ascents and descents, respectively.
This mountaineering boot carries the brand-owned Bilight midsole. It has an ergonomic shape that provides long-lasting cushioning and shock absorption. It is also designed to receive crampons.
Delivering support is an insole made of nylon and fiberglass (27%). To amplify comfort, it features the MFF+—a component with two interchangeable layers that accommodate various foot shapes and sizes.
The Vultur Evo GTX’s upper is made of hard-wearing 2.8 mm Perwanger suede leather. The benefits of this material is optimized by a lining, the Gore-Tex Performance Comfort laminate. This duo renders protection against water encounters and ventilation during warm weather hikes. The Gore-Tex membrane also offers a modest amount of insulation. Durability and security on the trails is optimized thanks to the TPU toe cap and wrap-around protective rand.
This Salewa footgear has a Flex Collar which promotes the ankle’s range of motion, especially during descents. It also features an Overlap Closing, a tongue construction that securely wraps the foot without compromising comfort.
The trademarked 3F System connects the instep to the sole and heel. It helps prevent slippage while granting flexibility and support. Also, its lacing system employs combination eyelets. To facilitate easy on and off, it is designed with a heel strap.
- This mountaineering boot is compatible with hybrid crampons.
