Good to know
Stability and motion control add-ons are uncommon for workout shoes and are never present in CrossFit or weightlifting footwear. They are mostly found in walking shoes where the gait is easier to correct.
Training footwear typically weighs between 200g and 300g per shoe to accommodate agile workouts. Minimalist trainers go as low as 150g, while weightlifting shoes can go as high as 500g.

Updates to Ryka Devotion
- The Devotion is a walking trainer from Ryka that was specially designed to meet the needs of women. It has a low-cut profile that is composed of a synthetic air mesh and a high-density foam upper. Its build allows for ventilation, support, durability, and flexibility.
- The shoe makes use of the Precise-Return insole. It aims to provide soft underfoot cushioning and is lined with textile for added comfort.
- On the other hand, the midsole is made of the RE-ZORB EVA foam that is meant to be responsive and shock absorbent. It is molded to the shape of the foot to fit its contours.
- The outsole’s tread has an eight-point skeletal pattern to protect the high-stress areas of the foot. It also has flex grooves to promote natural flexion.
Ryka Devotion size and fit
The Ryka Devotion is a walking shoe that is designed to fit the silhouette of a woman’s foot. It generally runs small, so buyers may need to get a half- or one-size larger to get the perfect fit. It comes in two width options, B - Medium and D - Wide.
Rubber makes up the entire bottom of the Ryka Devotion. This material is durable; thus, protecting the shoe from the harsh abrasiveness of concrete, asphalt, and other textured ground. It also grants traction to the footwear.
The tread patterns are designed to enable flexibility and protection. The outsole features an eight-piece skeletal design in the forefoot for shock absorption. It also has flex grooves to facilitate natural foot movement.
The Ryka Devotion utilizes the textile-lined Precise-Return insole. It serves as cushioning to give a plush underfoot feel.
The RE-ZORB platform is placed underneath for shock-absorption and energy transfer. It is made of ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) foam that conforms to the foot’s contours for customized cushioning. This material is characterized by its lightweight and impact-absorbing nature.
A combination of synthetic material, air mesh, and high-density foam is used to create the low-cut upper of the Ryka Devotion. Its form is engineered to be pliable to accommodate the various foot movements. The mesh material allows air to flow into the foot chamber, keeping the interior ventilated. The synthetic overlays throughout the unit are meant to keep the foot supported, contributing to the overall durability of the footwear.
The foot is locked down with the use of a traditional lace-up closure. It gives a more customized fit and security.
The fit of the upper is made snug by the padded tongue and collar. The plush tongue also serves to protect the instep from the laces. As for the collar, it prevents chafing and keeps the back of the foot from accidentally slipping out of the shoe.
For those who want to experience the comfort of the RE-ZORB sole unit but would like to see a more lightweight and breathable upper, Ryka also offers the Devotion Plus 2 walking trainer.
