The word Zoku was derived from a Chinese-originated Japanese dialect, which means a person who belongs to a tribe or clan. It was coined during the 1950s and has since been used for referring to groups of people who share the same interests in Japan.

Reebok adapted this term into their newest sneaker design called the Reebok Zoku Runner. It is the brand's first-ever Ultraknit shoe and is created to cater to consumers who are into the lightweight sock-like sneaker trend today. The pair utilizes Reebok's knit technology, which was reportedly concocted in the lab for over a year. The sneaker's design pays homage to some of Reebok's classic silhouettes such as the 70's Aztec shoe, the 80's Classic Leather, and the 90's Dual Pump Runner.
