Before Allen Iverson became the first pick of the 1996 NBA Draft, Reebok already had their eyes on the Big East Rookie of the Year as they saw him to have great skill and potential to become the face of Reebok.

Then newbie footwear designer Scott Hewett and two other Reebok staffers gathered everything they knew about Iverson and created the Reebok Question. The original shoe features tumbled leather on the upper with pearlized toe-cap, ghillie lacing system, Hexalite cushioning, and non-marking rubber outsole. Nineteen years later, the Reebok Question is re-released; but as a low-top.

Like Reebok, other basketball brands also re-released signature shoes. The first Air Jordan sneaker started it all. These kicks have been retroed over and over throughout the years., resulting in hundreds of renditions.Jordan’s parent company Nike also brought back some of the famous classics which are definitely missed by most basketball fans. From LeBron James esteemed roster of on-court sneakers is the storied Air Zoom Generation, which is touted as the one that started the King’s empire. From the Black Mamba’s pool of shoes is the Nike Kobe 1 Protro, which is reported to be one of the most successful retroed shoes.

Cushion. The shoe's cushioning system involves Reebok's Hexalite technology and a fluffy polyurethane (PU) insole that work hand in hand to provide comfort and impact protection to the heel. Hexalite is a thermoplastic urethane (TPU) structure inspired by the shape of honeycombs, which are said to be the lightest yet sturdiest structures in nature. The lightweight design distributes weight and absorbs shock during impact better than dense EVA foams.

Traction. The shoe's outsole is made of a thick translucent rubber that can be used outdoors. Many underestimate the Reebok Question Low's outsole as most of its surface is flat and smooth. However, the shoe proves to be the stickiest on-court. The grooves on the outsole are reminiscent of bell curves that surround the heel and the ball of the foot. It is important to mention that the rubber compound attracts dust; regular wipes are needed to retain its sticky grip.

Length and Width. The Reebok Question Low runs true to size, people with regular-sized feet can go with their standard Reebok basketball sizes. For wide-footers, however, it is suggested to try the shoe on personally as the shoe's fit can feel a little narrow and may cause discomfort.

Lockdown. The shoe's lockdown relies on the structured leather upper and its ghillie lacing system. Given that it is of the right size and the shoe has already been broken in, the tumbled leather upper becomes sock-like and conforms to the wearer's foot. The midsole extends above the footbed to form a cage that also helps in foot containment.

The materials that the upper is made of vary depending on the colorway. However, the Reebok Question Low’s usual upper is made of a soft and thick premium tumbled leather or textile that is coupled with a suede or pearlized toe cap. The mesh tongue is the only source of ventilation. Reebok Hexalite technology is housed within the heel area of the foam midsole while a plush insole insert ensures step-in comfort. Lastly, a non-marking solid rubber compound makes up the shoe’s outsole.

The Reebok Question Low is perfect for summertime casual wear. With its premium leather upper, the shoe will undoubtedly turn heads. The Reebok logo can be found on both sides of the shoe and on top of the tongue. A Question logo is stitched near the Achilles; Iverson’s jersey number 3 is stitched right below it.
