A look back to the journey of Club C

Initially launched in 1985, the Reebok Club C was designed under the supervision and direction of Paul Brown. It was purposely made for club players who needed a durable and high-performance tennis shoe.

The Reebok Club C trainers featured a strengthened garment leather toe cap, backstay, and eyestay for extended wear. With a terry cloth lining, it had a removable urethane arch support system for comfort and support. It had a clean and unique silhouette that evolved from a performance shoe into a lifestyle sneaker.

The Reebok Club C grew in four tennis shoes in the late 80s to early 90s. They were the Club Champion, Revenge Plus, Monterey, and Club Classic.

In the Spring of 1989, the Reebok Club C became available in the US in men’s sizing. Some of the classic colorways that are still available today are white on white and white and navy. It was when July 1993 came that the shoe became available in women’s sizing.

It was also in 1993 that the Reebok Club C and the Club C Canvas were officially tagged under the category of Classics. It moved the ‘80s tennis shoe formally off the court into the closets of fashionistas everywhere.

In connection with this event, it led to the birth of several iterations, including the Club C Wide 1994. It was also in the 90s that the sneaker became a popular choice among skateboarders, particularly in California. The shoe’s low-top silhouette and rubber outsole were a go-to choice of skateboarders.

Based on the Reebok Archive, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 80s tennis shoe, another silhouette was released in 2016 in the name of the Reebok Club C 85 Vintage. It received a retro makeover. The word “CLASSIC” was no longer seen on the tongue.

  • Previously, the Reebok Club C was known as the Reebok Revenge Plus.
  • An old advertisement that included Reebok Club C once read, “Time passes. Looks change. Fads die. But some things never get old.” This proves the campaign in 1992 true that Reebok’s classic shoes never get old.
  • It has a high-abrasion rubber cupsole that provides reliable traction.
