Reebok Club C 85 SG History
In the footwear industry, the 80s can be defined as an era where a lot of the emblematic silhouettes were released. For Reebok, although it started its sales slower than the more prominent brands like Adidas and Nike, the decade became a marvelous time for its success because it surpassed the sales of the mentioned brands. The Reebok Club 85 was one of the sneakers that became responsible for the brands’ triumph.
Introduced in 1985, the Club C 85 is the epitome of what a tennis shoe should be like, starting with its name that stands for Champion. It was during this time that tennis was at its peak and Reebok was able to capitalize on making a sneaker apt for the exclusive dress code of the sport. Borrowing elements from the Newport Classic and as a refashioned version of the Revenge Plus, the Club C 85 carried a cleaner and more toned-down design.
Just like the infamous Freestyle, the OG version of the Club C’s is adorned with a leather upper and a comfortable terry towel liner. Additionally, it carries a quirky emblem of a UK flag along with the Reebok branding despite being acquired by an American Paul Fireman. Up until today and with the more recent versions of the Reebok Club C 85, this oddity remains unchanged.
Reebok Club C 85 SG Style
Much like most of the Reebok Club C 85 series, the Seasonal Gum pack proves that its classic style reigns supreme. These sneakers carry a great mix of vintage and modern. The soft nubuck leather, which comes in irresistible and bold colorways, is a significant update to this iconic sneaker. Concurrently, the low-top silhouette and the gum sole make great accents for the sneaker’s throwback style.
These sneakers will most likely pique the interest of those who are on the hunt for a classic shoe with a twist. Styling these can be no-fuss as it can be versatile and can suit different outfits. It is ideal to pair these with shorts or jeans as the suede upper creates a lovely addition of texture to an ensemble.
Fit & Sizing
The Reebok Club C 85 SG is a men’s sneaker with sizes ranging from 6-14. Generally, most of the users note that these sneakers are true to size. However, for women who want to get a hold of these, they can go down 1.5 sizes to get that optimal fit.
This low-top sneaker comes with a traditional lace-up closure for an additional snug. The tennis-shoe DNA that it carries and the suede upper ensures its glove-like fit and lateral support.
Two key factors are apparent on how the Club C series withstood the test of time. It is the combination of style and comfort, and that is also apparent with the Seasonal Gum pack. The use of a premium material that of a soft pigskin nubuck upper gives this iconic silhouette a modern upgrade. The design of the shoe is kept clean and sleek, shying away from gaudy details and branding.
The outsole is one of the leading attributes linked to this shoe. Hence its name SG, which means Seasonal Gum, the gum sole provides traction and durability. More so, it creates a pleasing contrast.
