Puma Suede Varsity History

The Puma Suede, more popularly branded as Clyde by the sneaker fanatics, gained recognition in the 60s when it was seen sported by basketball legend Walter 'Clyde' Frazier of the New York Knicks as his warm-up footwear. Frazier requested the Puma for a wider version of the basketball warm-up shoe; thus conceiving the Puma Clyde silhouette.

The Puma Suede emerged in the period when the leather footwear ruled the market. The cool and laid-back image of Mr. Frazier helped the Puma Suede to liftoff from being unknown to one of the trendiest kicks during that time. It instantly became the go-to street kick of choice of the b-boys and few hip-hop artists from the 80s.

Over the years, the Puma Suede has undergone countless reworking through collaborations or purely upgrading the details that efficiently fused casual fashion and functional sneaker. One of it is the Puma Suede Varsity, which displays all the heritage elements but revamped with shiny features.

Puma Suede Varsity Style

The low-top Puma Suede Varsity displays the classic athletic look with a twist. The brand added shiny embroidered details on the Formstrip and tongue, and the Jumping Cat logo at the heel create a luxurious vibe while keeping the sporty heritage. The premium suede is seated atop a white rubber midsole to give a touch of its athletic culture.

The soft, suede upper is dressed in various colorways, the Cerulean/Puma White, Ribbon Red/Puma White, and Puma Black/Puma White that could be easily mixed and matched with practically any casual attire. Many ladies can be seen sporting this with their sporty getup and their girly ensembles. From their activewear to flowy summer dresses, this kick will surely elevate one's laidback look.

Fit & Sizing

This model is exclusively offered in women's sizing from 5 to 11 US in regular width. This model fits true to size; therefore, it is suggested to get one's regular shoe size. Puma added cushioning on the collar and tongue and on the sockliner to maximize the comfort and fit. Meanwhile, the front lace-up closure system with a flat cotton lace delivers secure, custom fit.

Notable Features

Over and beyond the Puma Suede Varsity's timeless and iconic silhouette, what makes this pair remarkable is the metallic embellishments on several parts of its upper. The gold thread is embroidered on the Formstrip and the outline of the tongue label. Also, the Puma label on the lateral side and the Jumping Cat logo on the heel is in metallic gold, too. These details elevate the classic suede profile to a more striking and luxurious effect.
