Good to know
Stability and motion control add-ons are uncommon for workout shoes and are never present in CrossFit or weightlifting footwear. They are mostly found in walking shoes where the gait is easier to correct.
Training footwear typically weighs between 200g and 300g per shoe to accommodate agile workouts. Minimalist trainers go as low as 150g, while weightlifting shoes can go as high as 500g.

Updates to Puma Phenom Satin EP
- As part of the En Pointe collection, Puma launched a revamped version of the Puma Phenom that would remind users that it was inspired by the New York City Ballet.
- The Puma Phenom Satin EP retains a majority of the technologies used in the original model. The most significant change is the material utilized on the upper. Instead of mesh, it is made with satin, but the mesh panel at the ankle area is kept for ventilation. The satin gives the trainer its unique look that is reminiscent of ballet shoes.
Puma Phenom Satin EP size and fit
The Puma Phenom Satin EP is designed with women’s foot shape in mind and is available in female sizes. It follows the standard measurement scheme and comes in a B - Medium width profile. The neoprene collar is form-fitting, while the medial strap adds to the snugness of the fit.
The underside of the Puma Phenom Satin EP is lined with a full-length rubber. The compound is crafted to be flexible, durable, and slip-resistant. The rubber extends to the front, protecting the toes during burpees and sled pushes.
The forefoot section features cutouts that form zones which facilitates multidirectional traction. It also has a vertical flex groove at the center which delivers side-to-side flexibility. The herringbone tread pattern provides full-ground contact and enhances traction on indoor and outdoor surfaces.
The Puma Phenom Satin EP employs the injection molded ethylene-vinyl acetate (IMEVA) foam. This platform was developed to provide a lightweight cushioning that absorbs shock. It is also flexible to allow natural foot movements. The unit extends upwards on the lateral and medial sides of the midfoot to provide support during side-to-side movements.
The heel has an additional IGNITE foam that amplifies the shock attenuation at the rearfoot. It is made to be responsive and does not lose its shape in hot or cold conditions. It also keeps the heel steady during dynamic workouts.
The upper of the Puma Phenom Satin EP sports a high-cut profile. It has been updated and uses satin instead of mesh in the majority of the body. The satin material provides the footwear with a smooth and soft façade.
The high collar is made of neoprene which is intended to bring a sock-like fit. The collar has mesh panels on both sides to keep the foot chamber well-ventilated.
The lace-up structure of this model is meant to elevate the stylish flair of the footgear, not just for fit adjustment. As for the hook-and-loop mechanism, it heightens the lateral support of the upper when the strap is tightened.
