Puma Clyde Sock NYC History
One of Puma’s classic sneakers is the Puma Clyde. It was popularized by basketball icon and superstar Walt "Clyde" Frazier as a basketball shoe when he requested a lighter and broader version of the Puma Suede. It eventually became more of a lifestyle shoe that continuously makes a presence in the streets and the sneaker community.
On April 13, 2017, Puma officially released the Puma Clyde Sock NYC Pack as yet again another tribute to Frazier. This pack includes four different colorways, two of which pay homage to Frazier's New York City home team – the blue/orange and the white/black colorways. Other colorways include white/orange and black/white.
The Puma Clyde Sock NYC sneakers feature the base silhouette of the original Puma Clyde with an added touch of a fixed sock-like, high-top EvoKnit collar. The collar features stripes that resemble the tube socks that Frazier used to wear on the courts back in the day. It also features a leather upper and a rubber outsole.
In July 2017, the Puma Clyde Sock NYC got another release in new colorways and a different upper material. Instead of leather, this release features a half nubuck, half textile construction and in three monochromatic colorways with Puma Clyde branding in gold text.
Puma Clyde Sock NYC Style
The Puma Clyde Sock NYC is a one-of-a-kind and modern upgrade on the classic low-top Puma Clyde. It has a classic silhouette updated with a leather or nubuck and textile upper and completed with an EvoKNIT sock collar that makes any casual outfit stand out from the rest. It is also available in several colorways - some exuding an athletic vibe while others give out a more casual look with their monochromatic aesthetics.
Fit & Sizing
The Puma Clyde Sock NYC is available in men’s sizes from 8 to 14 in standard width, including half sizes. As for the ladies, they can opt to get an approximate 1 ½ to 2 sizes down their usual size.
The Puma Clyde Sock NYC features a modified, high-top collar that is of EvoKNIT material – a woven textile that conforms to the feet for a more supportive feel and added comfort. Also, as it is based on a basketball shoe, the Clyde Sock NYC has a great overall hold and support for the feet.
The traditional lace closure can be adjusted depending on the wearer’s preference.
The Puma Clyde Sock NYC is the kind of sneaker that one can easily distinguish from afar because of its one-of-a-kind tube sock feature that extends down to the toe box. This tube sock is basically a fully knitted EvoKNIT sock collar with stripes that hugs your ankle for an added protection and comfort. Such feature sets this version apart from the original Puma Clyde.
- The Puma Clyde Sock NYC also features the Puma Clyde branding on the side panels just above the signature Formstrip in contrasting color.
- Alongside the Formstrip are perforation details to allow foot ventilation or breathability.
- Puma’s EvoKnit technology is Puma’s take on the knit trend in sneakers. It utilizes woven textile material.
- The insole of the Puma Clyde Sock NYC is removable.
