Puma Clyde Pride History

The Puma Clyde originally released in 1973 as a basketball shoe designed specifically for basketball superstar Walter "Clyde" Frazier when he asked for a customized pair of the Suede. The original Puma Clyde is a lighter and broader take on the Suede, with Clyde's name stamped on the lateral side. Although initially intended for basketball, it has also made its way as a prominent name in the old-school hip-hop subculture and skating community. It is still evident in the sneaker market up to this day with a wide array of versions released throughout the years.

Released in June 2017 just in time for the Pride Month as a nod to the LGBT community is an iteration of the classic Puma Clyde – the Puma Clyde Pride. It is a part of Puma's Pride Pack, which also includes caps, T-shirts, fanny pack, socks, and other merchandise with a rainbow-colored theme.

The Puma Clyde Pride bears similar features to that of the Puma Clyde, but with a rainbow-colored outsole, brandings, and extra set of laces. Its upper is comprised of a full leather material in white with tonal Formstrip overlays on the lateral sides. Similar to the Clyde, this limited edition also features perforation details lateral to the Formstrips for ventilation. The tongue, footbed, and collar are all lightly cushioned for additional comfort.

Puma Clyde Pride Style

The Puma Clyde Pride is a low-top fashion sneaker that shadows the silhouette of the classic Puma Clyde. The all white full leather upper exhibits a minimalistic allure, but the rainbow sole and rainbow accents on the Puma brandings balance it out with a striking statement. Because of its color, this Pride edition of the Clyde works best with a wide array of outfits for both men and women. Strut in style and be loud and proud with the Puma Clyde Pride sneakers.

Fit & Sizing

The Puma Clyde Pride is a low-top shoe that allows flexible ankle movement with additional comfort provided by the padded collar and tongue. Like most sneakers on the market, it has a traditional lace-up closure that can be adjusted for a customized fit. The tongue has a tab at the center, which functions as an extra eyelet to help keep it in place for a more secure fit. Further, the full leather upper provides sufficient hold and support to the feet.

This Puma model is a unisex sneaker available only in men's sizing that ranges from 5 to 13, including half sizes, in D Medium width. Women who would like to cop a pair should opt for an approximate 1.5 to 2 sizes down from their usual size.

Notable Features

The Puma Clyde Pride is an iteration of the classic Puma Clyde silhouette with a one-of-a-kind metallic rainbow outsole that makes a statement. The rainbow outsole stands out even more because of the white full leather upper. Matching the theme of this edition is the extra set of rainbow-colored laces and the metallic rainbow Puma logo on the tongue and Puma Clyde branding on the lateral side.
