Puma Basket Classic Citi Strap History
Puma penetrating the basketball community was highly prominent with their initial edition of the Puma Suede. The sneaker's paramount status quo was unintentionally achieved during the 1968 games where Tommie Smith, a USA Track & Field member, projected a boundary-shattering gesture holding one hand up high to show his support to human rights while being awarded the Gold medal.
The fresh reputation of the Suede led Puma to create another timeless version of the versatile footwear in full leather construction. This fame gave birth to the Puma Basket, which was another basketball intended model. The Puma Basket would later be reinvented in the more recent years as the Puma Basket Classic.
Honoring the original Basket design, the Puma Basket Classic was consistently remodeled in different colorways with variations including elements like straps for ease. The company released another shoe line called the Citi series that houses shoe brands with hues resembling urban living.
The Puma Basket Classic was one of the models that received a coveted reconstruction. Iterations on these shoe line include the Puma Basket Classic Citi and a practical version called Puma Basket Classic Citi Strap which has Velcro enclosures for an always-on-the-go feature.
Puma Basket Classic Citi Strap Style
Despite the clunky straps on the vamp of the sneaker, the Puma Basket Classic Citi Strap's upper displays smooth leather in a rubber cupsole that lays flat on the ground from heel to toe. The down-to-earth profile in a low cut provides versatility in clothing options for both men and women. Jeans are adequate for casual gatherings, but women with skirts and dresses can also sport the sneaker fashionably.
Fit & Sizing
The sneaker's overall construction stays true to the standard sizing of D medium for men. Three convenient loop straps help keep a snug enclosure. Men's sizes are available in a full size run from 6 to 12. Puma's Unisex size conversion suggests women go down 1 1/2 sizes as some retailers for this sneaker model provide androgenous sizing.
The Puma Basket Classic Citi Strap maintains the structure of the original Basket design in its flat rubber cupsole in a leather upper. The prominent feature that deviates this footwear model from others is the inclusion of straps at the vamp which was also assembled with leather details. Perforations resembling the iconic Puma Formstrip are positioned at the lateral and medial panels.
