Pharrell Williams Hu Holi NMD BC History
Adidas has always been known for collaborating with different artists, celebrities, and designers of different cultures and personalities. For decades, it has built an army of designers with diverse interests and art form, which are all reflected in most of the Adidas products including sneakers.
One of today’s most popular Adidas collaboration projects is the Adidas x Pharrell Williams. The American rapper officially became a part of the Three Stripes in 2014 when he signed a long-term collaboration project with the brand.
Two years later, Adidas and Pharrell released the “Hu” line which stands for both the “human” element in the periodic table and the word “hue” representing people of different colors. The collection released back then includes the NMD silhouette with a touch of Pharrell Williams’ signature vibrant colors and different words branding on the shoe’s upper such as “Human,” “Race,” “Species,” “Hu,” “Being,” and “Man.”
Then came February 2018. Following the successful collaboration of Pharrell and Adidas in 2016 is another partnership project named officially as the Adidas x Pharrell Williams Hu Holi Collection. Inspired by the Holi Festival, otherwise known as the Indian Festival of Colors, the collection is comprised of bright and colorful (and white, or blank canvas) footwear and apparel.
Included in this collection is the Pharrell Williams Hu Holi NMD BC or “Blank Canvas.” Released ahead of the other items in the entirety of the collection, it first dropped on February 23, 2018, as part of the “Blank Canvas” pack along with other apparel and footwear such as the Tennis Hu PK and an all-white Stan Smith in Primeknit. The “Blank Canvas” pack was the first installment in the three-part series of the Holi-inspired collection. The Pharrell Williams Hu Holi NMD BC features a combination of white and cream colors, the signature lacing system, and a Boost sole with outdoor trail elements.
Pharrell Williams Hu Holi NMD BC Style
The Pharrell Williams Hu Holi NMD BC is a stand out in the entire Pharrell Williams’ Hu Holi collection of footwear for the Three Stripes. Staying true to its “Blank Canvas” name, it features a clean silhouette with white and cream tones that gives out minimal aesthetics that quickly grab the attention of every sneaker enthusiast.
The Adidas NMD has already left its mark on the sneaker market, and the addition of Pharrell's creativity on this already established silhouette makes the Pharrell Williams Hu Holi NMD BC even way better. Its minimal design combined with clean colors only equates to a sneaker that is easy to wear and easy to style regardless of age or gender. Its simplicity is the core that gives the Pharrell Williams Hu Holi NMD BC its character.
Fit & Sizing
The Pharrell Williams Hu Holi NMD BC shoe is a running-inspired lifestyle sneaker with a two-piece Primeknit upper that conforms to the feet for a sock-like, comfortable fit. It has a slip-on, bootie construction for easy on/off wear. The upper material and the low-cut profile of this shoe also allow flexible foot movement, while responsive cushioning is offered through the Boost midsole.
This Pharrell Williams NMD edition is available in men’s sizing, which ranges from 6 to 11 in D Standard width. It fits true to size for the majority of purchasers, but there are some reports on its fit being a bit on the wide size because of the Primeknit upper.
The Pharrell Williams Hu Holi NMD Blank Canvas is one proof that simple and minimal could also mean stylish. Boasting a silhouette inspired by the popular Adidas NMD shoe, this special iteration features a different variation of Primeknit on the upper, which is a bit thicker and sturdier than the regular. The Boost midsole also received an update with an all-white NMD Trail outsole for added traction.
Another notable feature is the embroidered wordings on the top part of both shoes. On the right shoe is the English word "WORLD," while on the left shoe is a Hindi word that means “EQUALITY” in English.
- This shoe also comes with extra set of cream-colored laces. Also featured is Pharrell NMD’s signature TPU midfoot cage which doubles as eyelets for the rope laces.
- On the heel part is an overlay of white leather instead of the regular pull tab. The white leather displays different branding for each shoe in a pair. The Adidas Trefoil logo is displayed on the heel of the right shoe in contrasting black color, while on the left shoe is Pharrell William’s logo.
- The sockliner bears reflexology-designed prints.
- There is also the NMD signature molded EVA midsole plugs.
