Pharell Williams Hu Holi Tennis Hu BC History
The created design think tank between Adidas Originals and Pharrell Williams dates way back before the two have officially tied the knot in 2014. Williams, or most commonly known as Pharrell, had been rocking in custom patterned Adidas kicks which can be seen during stage performances or during red carpet scenarios. Pharrell's affinity with the German footwear producer had stood the tests of time and was given its rightful merger two years before the coveted Human Race NMD was released.
The first collection that Pharrell and Adidas Originals spearheaded featured an Adidas Superstar leather track jacket in tonal colors and a Pharrell-infused colorway of the classic Stan Smith. Both of these apparel come in red, blue, and black pigments. To accentuate the Pharrell way of styling, the traditional Adidas Three Stripes is remodeled into a parallel structure with the top two lines splashed in incomplete bold tints. A few months after its inaugural release, the Pharrell x Adidas Originals Stan Smith "Tennis" was introduced to the public eye.
The dawn of 2015 witnessed a breathtaking new explanation for the word Superstar as Pharrell, Damien Lillard, Rita Ora, and David Beckham star at the "Original Superstar" short film which is more like of a commercial. Along with this snippet, the duo also released a collection of Superstar sneakers that come in ridiculously vast arrays of color palettes present in the color wheel.
The momentum of Pharrell and Adidas' partnership grew stronger and stronger every year and had achieved their brightest and most lucrative collaboration, as deemed by many, in 2016. It was this year where their marriage sprouted a message-bearing line of apparel under the word "Hu" which as per Williams, stands for Human Ultimatum. The Hu franchise is also inspired by the group of Native Americans in North Dakota comprised of Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation. Its simple message of celebrating the human diversity across nations picked up velocity with every new sneaker release.
Fast forward to 2017, the two fashion moguls reconstructs the old-fashion Adidas Stan Smith tennis sneaker and gives it a contemporary flair. The Pharrell Williams x Adidas Originals Tennis Hu mimics the silhouette of the Human Race NMD's but utilizes a waffle-notched EVA midsole and a flexible mesh upper. The Stan Smith-inspired heel tab features Pharrell's name as well as on the tongue.
2018 was the year of the Holi line for the creative partnership between Williams and Adidas. It was a nod to the religious Hindi festival of colors occurring in Nepal and India which signifies the triumph of good over evil. The product line was released in three batches. The first one was the Blank Canvas collection that features pristine monotoned white colorways of five sets of Adidas sneakers. The second one was the Adicolour range which displays an assortment of apparel from jackets to shorts. Lastly, the Hu Holi Powder Dye emblazons the revolutionary powder dying technique of pigmenting the uppers of select sneakers.
Included in the Blank Canvas franchise is the Pharrell Williams Hu Holi tennis Hu BC which is an implication of the wardrobe participants wear during the Holi festival. Its sock-like construction comfortably wraps the foot as emphasized by the knit upper material. The clean upper sits on top of an EVA sole designed with waffle patterns on the sides.
- Hu stands for Health Ultimatum while BC is short for Blank Canvas.
- Though it is described as a white colorway, the actual pigment used was cream white with its outsole drenched in cloud white.
- Rubber inserts cushion the feet and employ a cozy feel.
