Onitsuka Tiger Lawnship 2.0 History
Onitsuka Tiger was one of the global brands that sparked the commercial manufacture of tennis shoes in the past. Its very first model was the Tiger Winning tennis shoes which debuted in 1957. This breakthrough sneaker introduced breathable fabric uppers with enhanced gripping soles to accommodate the swift moves during the booming tennis era.
Two years after the release of the Tiger Winning, a subsequent version came up which now includes a herringbone pattern outsole. In 1963, the original Tiger Winning had a remake and changed its name to Passing which featured a new sole made of high abrasion rubber. After more than a decade of company change-ups and mergers, a follow-up was witnessed deemed the Lawnship which caters three different styles of play. The Lawnship 30 contains a molding sockliner which improves the fit while the Lawnship 40 and Lawnship 15 has a leather and mesh upper, respectively.
After decades of silence, the Onitsuka Tiger brand resurrected the Lawnship model from their sneaker vault and re-soled the vintage court shoe. The Onitsuka Tiger Lawnship 2.0 replenishes the iconic image of the classic tennis silhouette while bringing forth a contemporary low top appeal with its vulcanized tooling.
Onitsuka Tiger Lawnship 2.0 Style
The low top tennis sneaker can play along with almost every style of clothing combo possible. Men can sport it with joggers and jeans complementing the sneaker's colorway. Women can casually blend it with capris or white jeans that are perfect for walking. Sundresses can be partnered as well as one can pass the sneaker for a Common Projects pair.
Fit & Sizing
The sneaker contains a buttery soft leather upper which is complemented by a coated leather interior for a cozy feel. It is built in a unisex construction with sizes ranging from 7 to 13. Women are strongly advised to go 1.5 sizes up from the men's to obtain their proper fit.
The Lawnship was released a few years earlier than the 2.0 version, but the only difference between the 2 is the sole. The Onitsuka Tiger Lawnship 2.0 features a new and improved vulcanized midsole which scraps the original model's textured tooling.
- Onitsuka Tiger brandings can be seen at the sneaker's tongue, footbed, outsole, and at the back of the heel. A notched OT branding is also visible on the lateral side.
- It contains six perforation holes on both lateral and medial sides of the shoe.
- The lace enclosure includes seven eyelets for a customizable fit.
