Styling expensive shoes like the Onitsuka Tiger Corsair Nippon is not much of a thing considering its limited availability and above the pay-grade of many which would most likely make it a collector's item. Low top sneakers like these should always be flaunted and not covered. Skinny jeans, chinos, and shorts should make the best partners for this sneaker. Going formal with the black colorway would also suffice.

The classic Onitsuka Tiger side branding is revamped and stitched all the way through the side panels which gives it a sophisticated and authentic look. Two prominent colorways are released mainly the ivory and black.

From its founding year in 1949, Onitsuka Tiger had developed into one of the major brands that provides high-quality goods today. By venturing into different enterprises from ski-boots to running shoes, the company instilled a stronghold position in the global market. Focusing more on the sneaker aspect of the scenario may lead us to revisit the Onitsuka Tiger shoe that started it all: the OK sneaker.

The OK shoe was the pinnacle model that had sparked the inclination for Onitsuka management to tap the sportswear realm. Creating a basketball shoe was difficult at the time, and Onitsuka had gone through numerous research and prototypes before reaching the result which was the OK shoe. With the help from members of the Kobe High School basketball club, the sneaker was refined to expectations.

Subsequent sports shoes were released including one for volleyball, tennis, golf, gymnastics, wrestling, and many more. But the most coveted one and probably a controversial shoe also is the Corsair which was released in 1968 with the consulting expertise of Bill Bowerman. The sneaker makes use of a wedge foam inserted in the midsole which acclimatizes the Japanese model into American ground. While using the upper of their previous runner called the Marup, the Corsair blends in an advanced cushioning with a prestigious Onitsuka design.

Onitsuka Tiger would later dissolve and be absorbed by Asics, its mother company for the following years. Asics would then strive to be an unshaken company producing numerous sports apparel which spans the international waters. As the growing demand for vintage models surfaced through time, Onitsuka Tiger saw the limelight again when it was re-established in 2002. From there, certain companies arose giving focus to the rich Japanese heritage of the century-old brand. Thus, the Nippon Made subgroup was born.

Nippon Made was a specific sub-brand that manufactures high-end Onitsuka Tiger series. It was launched in 2008 and had released some models including Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 Deluxe and Onitsuka Tiger Corsair Nippon. These shoes have a price point starting from $300 but is deemed reasonable considering all of the sneakers are made of hand plus intricate detailing.

  • The sneaker maintains a lace-up enclosure for its lockdown which goes through seven pairs of eyelets.
  • Every detail in assembling the sneaker is made by hand; from dying the materials to stitching. It perfectly portrays the artisanal quality of Japanese made products.
