I’m very impressed with the Cloud Edge Moonlight. It gives me the complete package of comfort, style and versatility.
- On Running has partnered with PTScientists, a Berlin-based company committed to break down barriers in space research. To commemorate the partnership, On and PTScientists designed the limited-edition Cloud Edge Moonlight together.
- The upper is reflective. It has scattered specks which, collectively, resemble a star-studded night sky. These star-like dots are concentrated on the tongue, with a few of them sparsely spaced on other parts of the upper. There are also spots on the shoelaces which light up as well. When the runner is in an environment with low light, the dots light up, slightly improving the runner's visibility.
- The outsole is made with the patented CloudTec. The design is unique because On integrated individual foam units into the platform which provide most of the shoe's cushioning. It makes runners feel like they are running on clouds.
- Inside is a sockliner which features a print of the moon's surface. Just like the exterior of the moon, the sockliner has depressions that resemble lunar craters. It acts as an extra layer of cushioning which enhances comfort and helps with attenuating shock during the landing phase of the running cycle.
The On Cloud Edge Moonlight has standard sizing. Those who wish to procure a pair can make use of their usual size preferences. As for the width, runners can also choose from standard measurements - D - medium for men and B - medium for women.
The outsole of the On Cloud Edge Moonlight has the patented CloudTec which serves as the shoe's main cushioning component. It makes use of foam pods that are connected to a an engineered Speedboard. Each pod has a wide contact surface with linear grooves which help improve traction.
Because each individual unit is separated with spaces. This technique not only reduces the weight of the shoe, but it also provides a good amount of flexibility to the outsole. In the middle, a deep demarcation line was incorporated to facilitate a smoother transition from one phase of the running cycle to the next.
The pods on the forefoot and heel area covered with a tougher rubber. Because these areas are high-wear, the tougher rubber prevents them from wearing out quickly. The rubber also slightly enhances the grip and traction on various surfaces.
The On Cloud Edge Moonlight's midsole is also the CloudTec feature. As a cushioning system, each foam, also known as Clouds, cushions horizontally, adapting to the pressure applied to them. As the pressure is lifted, the Clouds become firm and spring back into their original shape, enhancing the take-off of the runner.
The limited edition Cloud Edge Moonlight has a breathable upper. Runners don't have to worry about hot spots forming as the shoe is well-ventilated thanks to the stretchable upper mesh material.
The toe area has been reinforced with a no-sew foil which protects the toes from getting injured in case the runner accidentally bumps into objects while running actively. On the midfoot and heel is a mesh overlay which provides minimal support on the part it covers. Because of this component, the midfoot and heel are slightly stabilized, providing the runner with a secure running experience.
There is an inner sock within the shoe that attaches to the tongue. Aside from delivering a snug fit, it also keeps the tongue in place, preventing it from moving side to side as the runner is in motion. With fewer seams inside, the comfort is enhanced and the likelihood of skin irritation is lessened.
The runner's foot comes in direct contact with the insole which was designed to have crater-like indentions. It provides comfort to the bottom of the foot, enhances the cushioning of the CloudTec component, and serves as an extra layer that helps attenuates shock when landing.
