NikeLab Air Max 1 Pinnacle History

Sometimes called the Nike Air Max ’87, the Nike Air Max 1, which was first released in 1987, practically raised Nike’s appeal and mystique at just the right time in their history. Just when competing brands were coming up with one innovation or another, Nike took a bolder than the most approach that not only raised a few eyebrows but also literally changed their own concepts and marketing strategy.

Back when the patented Air technology was becoming smaller and completely hidden, the inaugural Air Max rebelled at the exact time for a thoroughly surprising twist. Instead of hiding the Air unit, Tinker Hatfield opened up part of the midsole so what was only felt can now be clearly seen. From that brazen idea, the Air Max 1 and the line never really looked back.

Nike’s storied shoe received an impressive NikeLab makeover. The new variation is the NikeLab Air Max 1 Pinnacle. It features the original shape of the Air Max 1 and the iconic visible air unit that is strategically incorporated to provide impact protection and responsive cushioning. It still delivers the same high-quality construction with a contemporary look. The Pinnacle also features regular Swoosh branding.
