Nike x Sacai VaporWaffle: Bridging old and new running innovation

After several months of excitement, Nike and Sacai, a Japanese fashion brand, added another iteration that gets the people talking about its stupendous looks. Released alongside the Nike LD Waffle Sacai, the Swoosh introduced the chunky and neck-breaking VaporWaffle.

Mashing two different silhouettes from two different decades, the Nike Sacai VaporWaffle has a look rooted in history with a future-focused vibe. This sneaker is a hybrid of the two iconic Nike running silhouettes, the ZoomX Vaporfly from the modern era and the Pegasus from the 80s, fine-tuned with Chitose Abe’s design approach.

Out-of-the-ordinary features:

The Nike x Sacai VaporWaffle doubled up some of its prominent elements that seem like two sneakers combined. This crazy aesthetic created an iteration that unblemishedly merged past and future running profiles:

  • Typical in Sacai fashion, its double Swoosh on the lateral side creates a deconstructed and modernized style.
  • The layered tongue features the classic Nike logo and the Nike-Sacai emblem for modern flair and added comfort.
  • The stacked midsole is made of 3 different layers put into one. Seen on its heel, which looks like a mouth with a sticking-out tongue, is a firm cushioning that acts as the heel wedge for stability and improves its jaw-dropping flair.
  • It uses double pair of laces for that dual-tone lacing system. And to add more excitement, Nike included an extra pair of strings if you opt to change the overall look.
