Nike Roshe Two Breathe History

Continuing the legacy of Nike Running shoes is another popular running shoe turned lifestyle sneaker -- the Nike Roshe Run. First released in 2012 as an affordable minimalist running shoe, the original Nike Roshe Run was sold at only $70 with an EVA sole that was unmolded which made its manufacturing less costly. But before the midsole design was completed, it took the design team led by Nike designer Dylan Raasch 16 alterations before settling with the OG Roshe Run’s midsole.

Raasch drew inspiration for the design from the Zen Buddhist-inspired gardens that have long been known to exude aesthetic simplicity and balance. The shoe’s outsole with its individual pods resembled that of freshly raked sand and stones. Even the Roshe’s OG Iguana colorway has been inspired by the colors of moss growing abundantly growing in temples.

The name of the shoe is also heavily inspired by Zen Buddhism with the Roshe name coming from the Roshi title conferred upon Zen Buddhist masters.

Without any marketing and promotional hype, the first Nike Roshe Run was released to a unanimously good acceptance by the public who wanted a minimalist running shoe without the hype yet performs well. The shoe also had great reviews from blogs even starting a team Roshe community with thousands of followers on Instagram and other social media channels. Some five years after the first release, Nike has already released several colorways, exclusive designs, and collaborations, and other designs depicting the minimalist elements of the first Roshe run shoes.

But it was not all positive for the Roshe Run series as sooner after its release several critics held the shoe because of its affordability and the wide array of colorways it was available, many sneaker fans tend to tag it as a common shoe that lacks style and edge compared to other Nike limited releases.

But the fandom of the Nike Roshe Run seems unperturbed by some of the shoe critics as the shoe is still considered of the popular modern releases of Nike for a very long time. Its affordability and availability seemed to be both a boon and a bane of its existence but in the end; the entire line of modern running sneakers became a commercial success.

To follow-up, this success of the first Nike Roshe Run, the world’s top footwear maker released its successor the Nike Roshe Two on September 1, 2016, with the same popularity and probably even surpassing the first release popularity of the OG Roshe Run or Rosh One.

The Nike Roshe Run two featured a natural motion outsole with flexible groves and individualized pods for better traction while a triple-layer foam midsole gives wearers ultimate comfort and cushioning. With its one-piece bootie design, the shoe boasts of better on and off with its slip-on features and a fit that runs true to size. Early 2017, Nike released the Roshe Two Breathe with an even breathable textile upper and perforated tongue for a more cool and airy design perfect for the summer.

The lifestyle running shoe first came in colors that blend well with various types of clothing for men and women. Among the colorways for the Nike Roshe, Two Breathe include Black, Pale Grey, Arctic Orange, Trooper, and later on Polarized Blue, Sunset Glow, and Pink colorways for its female sneaker fans.

The Nike Roshe Run Two Breathe features a triple density foam midsole that gives the shoe extreme comfort and cushioning.  Plush cushioning can also be felt immediately upon wearing the shoe as the padded removable insole gives a great in-shoe feeling.

To further promise greater cushioning comfort and foot protection, extra padding was provided for the Achilles and ankle portion of the collar. To further prove that this is a better version of the original Roshe silhouette, Nike designers improved on the waffle outsole for reliable traction and impact protection with individual pods at the bottom for superior grip.

Compared to the thick upper material of the Nike Roshe Run two, the Breathe model has an ultra-breathable textile construction that lets air circulate all throughout the shoe and further improved with a perforated portion at the middle-upper up to the tongue.
