Nike Phantom VNM: For the perfect shot

    More photos

    About the boot

The Nike Phantom VNM (venom) is a different boot. With great power comes great surface area.

That’s right. These boots are for the clinical finisher with a large surface area to shoot more like a mix of the T90 and the Hypervenom.

    How the VNM came

The VNM is an innovation in football boots. This model is a necessity for Nike considering their arch-rival, Adidas, was improvising on their current Nemeziz, X, and the Copa.

A change was needed—Nike needs to bring out something new. Hence, the VNM—an innovation of the old technology—came into play, targeting those who are looking for sheer power.

This boot replaced the Hypervenoms, which in my opinion is an awkward thing. It is mainly because the Hypervenom is a great boot and is a seriously well-established product of Nike.

Power hitters like Marcus Rashford, Harry Kane, Edinson Cavani have even worn the Hypervenom.

    What the boots give

These boots look well. In the beginning, they did look aesthetically unpleasant. But after getting used to them, I eventually realized that they do look good. Certainly, these are a striker’s boot.

It can be seen in the design of the boot with the instep dubbed as the Precision Pwr strike zone. It is a key feature wherein there are 13 ridges of the Precision “Pwr” strike zone.

These are set at specific angles and ascending heights for keeping the ball down if it is mishit and provide a firm grip on the ball.

The front portion has a hexagonal pattern for those juicy touches that have perfection written all over it.

    Technology X Football

These boots have some serious innovation in them. So, summing everything up here are some important tech in it:

    • Flyknit—Yes, they have Flyknit in it but not in the lower takedowns
    • The lacing system of the Hypervenoms leading to a greater striking surface
    • The Pwr strike zone
    • The honeycomb texture for control and first touches
    • The new soleplate which gives traction better than ever
    • Flywire cables (again not in all takedowns)

    My review

These boots are different—but in a good way. At first, I found them unpleasant (aesthetically). However, after learning about them and seeing them in person, they looked weird but still good.

The crimson red and black was attractive. I was excited about the new tech in it when I bought it.

Comfort was just wonderful—not too tight nor loose. It has a snug fit and is pretty comfortable to wear.

Now, there is a partial lace cover on the boots. However, it is not really of any use but mainly just to make it look better.

SHOOTING was something I loved to do after wearing them because it just felt so natural and good.

My control was, I would say, “decent”, but the traction was something that made me absolutely fall in love with the boots.

To those power and knuckleball wanters: THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR!

    Match day

Since I am a quick runner, but relatively less agile, I depend on my soleplate a lot to help me out with agility. This is why I said that the VNM has one of the best soleplates I have come across.

It shows in the match. A good cushioned touch and great passing were what a CAM needs, and it has that. It has some minor controlling problems, but, overall, a good boot.

    Overall

The PhantomVNM has a good feel while I wear them. But there are some touch problems need getting used to. There is a huge improvement in the soleplate and excellent traction.

It is aesthetically pleasing in some ways. It offers great comfort and rather standard width, so most people should not have a problem in the fit.

The lacing system is like that of the Hypervenom, which looks pretty cool and gives a larger strike surface. These are just some important features of the boot that I liked.

Overall the boot fits just extremely well. It's got the same general shape as the elite model which is a little bit tighter.

  • The Nike Phantom Venom replaces the Hypervenom line but carries a heavy influence from the well-loved collection. The Phantom Venom Pro Firm Ground is a second-tier premium model that follows the Elite version. This soccer cleat is crafted with some of the brand’s best technologies to ensure that it outperforms the competition on natural grass, especially when it comes to precision.
  • Among the cleat’s top features is its synthetic upper that is lined with a Nikeskin overlay. This dynamic upper conforms to the natural contours of the foot for the best fit possible. Meanwhile, the added texture around the vamp ensures reliable grip on the ball that paves the way for better ball handling and increased shot precision.
  • Another highlight of this firm ground cleat is its lacing system that incorporates Flywire cables into its construction. These cables work to provide a more adaptive fit that enhances foot comfort. They also give excellent lockdown on the midfoot for better stability. Additionally, a stretchy tongue allows for a consistent fit.
  • On the cleat’s base, an HyperReactive plate that performs with impressive flexibility. This innovative plate features a combination of rounded and chevron studs that work to deliver traction on the firm ground pitch. Additionally, it also utilizes a contoured sockliner to help improve fit.

The Nike Phantom VNM Pro Firm Ground comes in the standard sizes for both men and women. It has a regular width and fits true to size. Users can expect this soccer cleat to wrap snugly around the foot owing to its form-fitting upper that features Nikeskin. Fitted with Flywire cables, this Nike model offers an adaptive fit and a firm lockdown on the foot. The central lacing system of this shoe allows wearers to customize the fit. Another soccer cleat with this customizability feature is the Nike Mercurial Superfly 360 Elite CR7 FG.

Synthetic material lines the upper of the Nike Phantom VNM Pro Firm Ground. A NikeSkin is infused into the soft and pliable upper allowing it to conform to the foot. For enhanced shot precision, the brand has equipped this soccer cleat with ridges on its instep that helps in ball handling. Additionally, the honeycomb micro-texture detail molded into the toe and vamp also work to improve overall control.

Over the cleat’s midfoot lies an asymmetrical lacing system that provides an expanded strike area. Flywire cables installed in the shoe help provide a firm lockdown on the midfoot. Moreover, a stretchy mesh tongue offers a consistent fit all throughout the game.

Nike has designed this soccer cleat with a HyperReactive soleplate on its base. This innovative outsole performs with high flexibility for multidirectional traction on natural grass pitches. It features a mix of rounded studs in the forefoot, which provide rotational traction, and chevron studs around the midfoot, that provides grip and stability for lateral movements.
