Nike Mayfly Woven QS History
In 2003, Nike created a sneaker solely for racing and dubbed it as the Mayfly. This shoe was designed to last only 100km of an intense concrete run before its life ends. It was named Mayfly after an aquatic insect that has a short lifespan. The upper of the Mayfly displays a print that resembles the wings of the Mayfly.
The Mayfly weighs only 135 grams and was known as the lightest sneaker of the Swoosh brand. It was crafted from a single piece of nylon on the upper with suede on the toebox that extends up to the tongue area. During the research and development, they commissioned runners Paula Radcliffe and Sonia O’Sullivan to help them with the testing.
In 2013, Nike released a woven version which, later on, turned out as the most celebrated variation. The evident branding was turned into a minimal and they used a very technical handwoven decoration for the entire length of the upper. Instead of using parachute nylon, Nike opted to utilize premium suede upper and leather on the details and sockliner.
Nike Mayfly Woven QS Style
Paring the low-top Nike Mayfly Woven QS with casual daily wear is easy because of its versatility. It features an all suede upper that is handwoven giving this shoe an extra spunk and character. Its leather footbed and cushioned midsole keep the feet ventilated and comfortable, suitable for the warm days. This kick can be paired off with jeans, joggers, shorts, cropped trousers, and tees or polos.
Fit & Sizing
The Nike Mayfly Woven QS is available in men’s and women’s sizes. Men have sizes 4 to 13 while women have sizes 5 to 12 US in medium width. This pair generally runs true to size. This shoe has the traditional lace-up closure with waxed laces for a secure fit.
An unexpected hit, the woven treatment on the tonal premium upper of the Nike Mayfly Woven QS makes it more attractive to many buyers. The handwoven detail is found on the entire stretch of the upper making it recognizable even from afar. Another striking feature is the presence of leather footbed that gives its wearers buttery and soft feeling while walking in this.
